and Serenity pretty much ties up all the loose ends you would want tied up.. so there's that as well.
I actually caught Serenity before I watched the series. At the time, I had no idea about Firefly. Didn't really bother me all that much. Great series.

Someone please give me a nonspoiler synopsis of what Firefly is all about.
- SciFi Western creates an interesting background of low tech and high tech
- Diverse group of very likeable characters
- Good main story arc full of hiding from The Man while saving the day/universe

A young Christina Hendricks pops up in a couple of episodes.

It's a live action Cowboy Bebop meets Trigun. There ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Btw I know most of this board despises big bang theory, but a saw an episode a few days ago with a Firefly reference. It was a flashback to when Sheldon was making out the roommate agreement with Leonard when he first moved in and said something along the lines of,
"Friday nights are reserved for watching the smash hit Firefly"
"Every Friday?"
"Well yes, this show will be on for years"

Okay, so I'm through ten episodes so far, and I'm really liking it.
I still stick with what I said on the previous page a month ago, about how it's nothing too special but I just like it. I feel like every episode does a good job setting up the plot, then there always seems to be some real threat/drama, and then everything is wrapped up nicely at the end (even though the resolution of some things seems to be a little too quick sometimes).
So far my favorite episode is Out of Gas. That's a really great 42 minutes of television IMO.

Exactly. There is nothing here that is totally groundbreaking. It is not Breaking Bad. Hell, it's not even Justified. It's just a helluvalotta fun to watch. The humor is great, the character interactions get better as the season progresses, no single episode falls flat. It's just a solid, enjoyable show that I looked forward to watching.
It's like the series of books by Brent Weeks known as the Night Angel Trilogy. It's not the best writing, it's not the best character development, it's just cool and you like it and you can read it through without having to think too much while at the same time caring about the outcome.
