All these threads about different calibers and bullet weights and which is best, better, worse, etc. got me to wondering... Which center fire rifle ammunition is the most plentiful and most easily procured across our country? I always felt it was 30.06, but maybe it's not? I'd hate to be sitting here with a 7mm-223-08 and then not be able to find or obtain ammo for any number of possible reasons or scenarios.

.30-06, .270, and .308

.30-30 is up there with them also.

Those are all trailed closely by 7mag

in a SHTF scenario, 7.62, 5.56 NATO and 9mm might be the "easiest" to... obtain

Or 5.56mm - used to be.

Now, it's probably 308.

if you're scrounging in a SHTF situation, this it what you'll find.
should have something that makes use of it.

And now, at least domestically, .40 S&W because of it's near universal use by law enforcement. Specifically, if you have a G22 or G23, there will be a better than 30% chance you'll just be able to grab that scrounged magazine and direct swap.

In the recent gun/ammo craze, I found 7.62 to be some of the last to go.

In reality, probably 1-2% of gun owners actually own an assault rifle that uses the ammo. Plus it's been mass produced for years and years
