A few recent pics from the backyard with a couple from 2 years ago for comparison. Are these the same deer? I'm almost certain the smaller one is, not sure about the bigger one. Any score guesses on that one? I know it isn't a monster and looks like part of one side may be broke off, just curious.

I couldn't come close to guessing a score on it, or any deer, but I'd shoot him

The first one's rack doesn't come past his ears so no on him. The next is a no brainer.

I'd say possibly on the first, I really doubt it on the second... That second one needs to be shot, good looking deer...

Score... I'm guessing around 130 +/- 5. That 4x3 frame cost you a tine and a circumference measurement. Mass is good but B&C favors width and he's really not that wide. A good heavy rack with lots of character and I would shoot in a heartbeat.

I would say it favors height much more than width

For sure... Basic B&C variables prefer more tines and taller tines first and foremost. In virtually all cases you want a 5x5 or better instead of a 4x4. Width would come second and circumference is dead last and undervalued by B&C. This is why you see see so many TX deer outscore larger heavier Canadian whitetail racks.

I learned pretty quickly when I traveled to hunt whitetails that if you are looking to break 140 its gonna be real tough with a 4x4.

I've seen the World Record Hanson buck firsthand and to this day I believe the Breen buck is still the better deer. B&C doesnt see things my way. I like the mass and the Hanson really isnt very massive by Saskatchewan standards..

The running joke in Saskatchewan is that the Hanson buck was one fight away from no longer being the WR. Milo got him just in time...

Hanson..213 on a 6x6

Breen...202 on a 5x5

O would be tempted on the last buck but I am concerned it woudl be less than 13" inside. he is not clearly outside the ears.

Width is only one measurement. Mass gives you way more inches. The reason a 5x5 is better, is the extra mass measurement.
I have a 125 8pt on the wall, only 16 inches was spread, the rest is mass and tine length.
Tine length, mass then spread, IMO.

ETA: IWSI- the big one.

I have seen you post this before...is this lease rules, county restrictions, or just personal preference? If its your county what county are you in and is this common in Tx? I don't know of any counties around us that have antler restrictions that I know of...and for the OP I would shoot both those deer.

I have most of those same deer on my camera at the house! Haven't seen the big boy this year yet, but he will be shot soon!

BTW: friends with your bro-in-law

Henderson County and yes it is the applied antler restriction for all counties in Tx that have antler restrictions.

It really sucks for a guy who just got into deer hunting 6 yrs ago.

First one is a cull he is about 5 years old he will not get any bigger horns wise. The last two I would let walk.

I assume you're somewhere close off of 22, he just started showing up last week. Maybe this will help you pattern him. As you know with the house, field, surrounding property and lease there is no way we could hunt him there....legally anyway. Good luck!

wiltz, email is coming your way. Work derailed my Florida trip last Spring but as of right now I plan on making it this year.

Should be a good year for turkeys in FL, many are reporting a bumper crop of poults due to warm and dry Spring. Have some decent leads on private land too...

That should be all you need, especially if it is on the West side between the creek and where they cut everything. Do you know anything about the lease? How many people, do they ever take new members, etc?

Have we met or did you recognize the pictures from him?
