Sup gentlemen. I've been shopping AR-15s off and on for a while. Looked at complete builds vs building my own. I love the idea of designing my own and saving some dough, however I'm simply not going to make the time to research it all.

Is it really that bad to buy complete? If so, why?

Otherwise, which entry level brands would you consider? I am buying more for nostalgic and fun purposes.

TIA

Not bad at all to buy complete.

What is your price range? I'd say a good entry level is a PSA Premium that will run you ~$700

RRA and Colt also make a solid ~$800 gun

If $1000 is your budget, go BCM

I got a Birchwood casey presto pen. Did well enough. Might go back over it if it bothers me.

If you want some customization without building from scratch, buy a complete lower then shop bravocompanyusa.com for the exact complete upper and rail you want. Slap it together and gas it up.

Go check out my thread. I was in the same boat as you but i did do research. I did take what posters here said to heart. I wanted a bunch of tacticool shite at first,Spikes lower,Aeroprecision upper.

Those two pieces would have cost me over $1000.

I'm not saying they're bad stuff but shite dude,i'm not even really sure i'm going to like these AR15's so i built my own gun for under $700. Little over including the $118 reflex site i just bought for it.

Thanks guys. Will check all this out and report back.

FTR id like to stay in the $800 range, but would probably max it out at $1,000.

I built one for around $400 and my other for about $550 or so. Good rifles too.

care to share what you purchased to put it together?

also to the others who replied, in the simplest form of "building" you mentioned buying a complete lower, complete upper, and rail. for instance:
spikes lower
upper

obviously i would be looking for something less expensive, just trying to figure out how this works.

My upper and lower was complete. Upper came with everything but the BCG installed. Lower fame with everything installed including Magpul grip and stock.

Stay away from Ptac. Is it PSA's non-milspec product line. Cheap as frick but it is hit or miss with quality

If you want a complete rifle under 600 get a s&w sport if you want to spend about the same but get better, get PSA premium stuff. You just gotta wait for sales.
