| Do use any programs to track your finances? (Posted on 12/14/12 at 6:50 pm)
Such as Quicken or Mint.com? I'd like to start using something to show me spending trends and all my finances in one place. What do you use, if anything?

I use Mint but it is far from perfect. If anyone has anything better I'd love to hear about it.

Mint. It's not good at assets. But works well with breaking down your spending.

I just signed up for Mint. I like a lot of things I've seen over the last couple hours of getting familiar with it, but there's a couple of things that it doesn't have. 1. It doesn't have one of my credit card companies. 2. My home is owner financed, and it doesn't really have a good way to track my payments and what I owe on the house. I deposit a portion of my income directly into the account of financier. side note: Is depositing directly into their account a bad idea? I guess I could deposit all of my check into my account then turn right around and get the bank to transfer that portion to the financier's account (we use the same bank), but it's easy for me to do and easy for the teller to understand when I give them the account numbers and say I want this amount in this account, another amount in a different account, and this much cash back. Not having one of my credit cards is no big deal, but the mortgage is a pretty good chunk that is not being included in my graphs and other reports. So, is there a program where that can be included?

I've been using quicken for almost 5 years now. I have all of my direct deposits and monthly bills setup on the calendar so I can easily see future balances, plan for big purchases, etc.

Ok. What version of quicken would you suggest? I saw where there were two or three versions for personal use. To give you an idea, I'm mid 20s, couple years out of college. I enjoyed the first couple years of having a job and my own money. Nothing stupid, didn't put myself into debt for stupid stuff or anything. I just racked up on guns, nice golf clubs, an atv, then I bought the house and had to furnish it, and now I've upgraded vehicles. So now that I've pretty much bought everything I needed and a good bit of what I wanted, it's time to start budgeting and pretty much starting my adult life. The only debt I have is house, vehicle, and maybe $1200 in credit cards. I just got my bonus, so I think I'm going to pay the cc debt off and put the rest in saving.

I use Quicken Deluxe. The new version (2013) has an app that lets you see your account info. and add transactions on the go through your smart phone.

I built my own in Excel. Tracks all my monthly bills, my 401K, my Roth, my mortgage. And I built my own check register, with it's own reconciliation macro. I can email it to you if you want.

I'm also looking for budget software. I looked at Mint but hate to give my bank info to a website so rather use program on PC. Leaning towards Quicken since it is the standard out there.

Mint FTW But TBH, I don't have very many expenses to be tracked. I don't own a home yet, no investments yet (although I don't think it even tracks that) But it works well for the budget I need
