quote:
NEWARK, N.J. -- Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker is prepared for a food stamp challenge. He and one of his Twitter followers each plan to live for a week on the monetary equivalent of food stamps or less. The mayor's week starts Tuesday. The North Carolina woman's began Sunday. The mayor prepared for the challenge with a grocery purchase of $27.98. Booker tweeted a picture of a receipt of the purchases he made Saturday at a Pathmark store in neighboring Irvington. The vegetarian mayor's grocery list included pink and black beans, corn and red delicious apples.

Cory Booker is a cool cat IMHO. Much too cool to be the mayor of newark. Christy should be scared. People love shite like this.

I've seen many TV specials on him...certainly a polarizing figure. He'll never run for president, IMO. With his 'hands-on' style...the mayor position fits him perfectly. He can't do the things he does as President.

This is fine and dandy, but shouldn't we also be focused on the inherent fraud in the program?

I don't think he's quite ready to run for Pres or even NJ Gov. He's younger so maybe some time in the future. He would be an awesome Cabinet official though

What's the objective: 1. Promote use of foodstamps for those that qualify 2. Advocate for additional funding as the amount given is not enough to sustain a healthy diet 3. Show how comfortable one can live on foodstamps and it will not motivate people to find employment at current levels. He will advocate cuts in funding or go strictly to a foodbank style approach; limiting choices to only sustain basic nutrients to live on.

I could easily eat off of $28 a week... Sandwich meat, bread, cheese, etc = about $8 Boxed macaroni = $1 a box (3 boxes) Oatmeal = $3 for a pack of 6 Cheap Pizzas = 1.19 a piece (3) Canned foods = $1 a can (5) That's around $24 after tax and I could easily live off of that...

+1. Booker will take Christie in the gubernatorial IMO. At that point maybe Christie will be able to focus on his health. He'll be past tense in politics.

Yeah he definitely needs to do some community organizing, spend a few years defending corps against slip n fall cases and do half a stint as a US senator

apparently he's a vegetarian so it makes it a bit tougher to pull off. I'd do like you though, some bread, some lunch meat, and a whole lot of ramen. I can eat ramen daily I think, never get tired of that stuff

I don't think so Christie's approval rating in NJ is gangbusters right now

He could walk into the senate, but governor is a better platform for running for president. He's mulling his options. A lot of democrats want him to take out Christie for 2016.

I just fricking listed what I would eat, no reason for me to do it when I already eat all of those things weekly... You really wanna know what my average days food intake is? Protein shake for breakfast: about $2 a serving Oatmeal mid morning: about 50 cents a serving Mc Donald's smoothie early afternoon: $3 Bagel and Turkey Sandwich for dinner: prob $1-2 a piece. On the high end, that's $8 a day... I could easily cut out the smoothie and protein and reduce that down to $4-5 a day

We'll see. i.e., I don't anticipate Christie taking the food stamp challenge. Cory Booker gave Christie a wicked bitch slap, in doing this.

I honestly don't think this has anything to do with Christie. It was in response to some exchange Booker had with someone on Twitter I think.
