| Browning Silver vs Maxus (Posted on 12/4/12 at 6:44 pm)
I'm planning to buy a browning silver soon . Is the maxus really worth the extra money? Whats the difference in the two? I'm going to use the shotgun to duck hunt. Where can I find some good prices on these two?

wouldn't mind hearing some answers for this thread either. I've had my eye on a new shotgun for a while. I use to sell them both but that was a while ago and I need to hear from those who have hunted with them, not some BS the firearm reps would yap about

Why the silver or the Maxus? I've been eyeing the new A5, anyone hear any reviews? I'm currently shooting the Gold and I love it.

Silver is really nothing more than a value packaged version of the now discontinued Gold. I own the Gold and am looking to upgrade to Maxus. Maxus is a better field gun and I'd feel much better carrying it into a duck blind than the Silver. Lighter, faster and probably more reliable.

I have a Maxus. I love it. Autoloading is great, gun is very light, I can shoot 3 1/2s all day and not be sore at all. Very easy to clean. All around a great gun. Im sure some of you will disagree but my buddy has a SBE 2 and the maxus out performs it, kicks less, and his has jammed on him on several occasions while we have been hunting. Ive never had mine jam up. Money wise, I think it was well worth the money and I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Is the silver not worth the money? Is it a good gun?

You should go hold both of them and see how they feel. Either one you go with, you shouldn't be disappointed. The Maxus is probably worth the extra $400 but I guess it's all up to you

A decade plus ago the Silver was considered a fine gun. The modern autos have really come a long way in recent years...

i LOVE mine! Got it about 2 yrs ago. Several of my closest hunting buddies shoot the Berretta Xtrema2 and IMHO, the Maxus is better. Much less recoil and lighter gun. Its my favorite gun to shoot.

I have a old Browning Gold that I bought new proba my 12 yrs or so ago. I put that gun through hell and it still shoots just fine. I bought an SBE2 4 yrs ago and it's much lighter and the Gold kicks like a mule. I also bought a Super Vinci a couple of years ago and absolutely love it. O e of my best friends sells guns and he has a Maxus and be loves it. I didn't shoot it but it felt great and it's extremely light. I wouldn't try to talk anyone out of it.

Just curious as why a hunter would need 3.5s, unless he/she is shooting geese from a mile up

I've got a gold and a silver. Love the Silver. No issues at all. I hate the way the maxus looks. Personally, I'd go with the silver.

I don't think the muzzle jump and price is worth it...but some hunters would argue that if you're going spend tons of $$ and time getting out there, why not spend a little extra to get the most 'bang' for your buck. That means more shot, more powder, better fps. 3.5's provide that...but I don't think it's necessary. 3" 'higher end' shells are adequate and don't knock you on your arse (regardless of how good your recoil is on your gun)
