Well, its pretty much a consensus that its good, but tedious compared to Fellowship. One reviewer from THR claims its the most faithful adaptation of any work ever made, even if he gave it a rotten rating. However Tolkein/Extended Edition nerds should love it.

11 reviews in?

I've seen movies start in the 90's on RT and plunge into the 50's by the time it gets to 100+ reviews.

This could very well do the same, it's too early to tell

Well, they're splitting into 3 movies for absolutely no reason.

It can't be as good or consistently interesting as LOTR.

I'm not worried about the Critic's reviews. I'm sure most of them will say something about the movie being too slow in the beginning, and doesn't live up to the LOTR, and too many characters, blah blah blah. frick'em all

Well these movies are going to have it harder than the LotR trilogy because while not only going to be compared to the book it is going to be compared to the trilogy.

So everyone needs to watch these movies considering that.

Some theater should troll people hard and show the Rankin/Bass version.

Well as to being slow, thats what happens when you chop up a book three ways versus having each book be its own movie. And The Hobbit is smaller than all of the LOTR books IIRC.

The plot is the plot. Either you don't like it or you do. It's not like the producers/directors came up with it.

I don't see anyway this trilogy lives up to LOTR.

if anyone is familiar with the book, we all could guess that the first movie is going to be much like FOTR. To simplify, it is going to be a lot of walking again.

I really do not know why everyone is freaking out about it be split into 3 movies. It is not like there is a lack of material to pull from Tolkien's world.

No doubt. I look forward to it myself. I'm hoping for a Tom bobadil sighting. Lot of non book readers and casual fans will bitch as per usual.

Really not trying to troll, but the movie doesn't even look good.

not shocked to see lower than expected scores.

Like the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit I think will really just be a 9 hour long single epic film that had to be split to be shown in theaters. The Lord of the Rings doesn't follow the typical trilogy arc, but it very much follows the formula of a single film/story. First act would be Fellowship of the Ring and the end of the first act is the Breaking of the Fellowship. The second act is the Two Towers and continues into Return of the King, ending at the Battle of Pelennor Fields and Cirith Ungol simultaneously. The third act focuses on making sure Frodo's journey is a success and the aftermath of its destruction.

I'll reserve my full thoughts on the Hobbit for another two years until I see it as a completed work. Alot of reviewers hated Fellowship at first, but once Return of the King was released, they changed their tune entirely once they saw it as a completed work.

I will freely admit that I just "dont get" this genre

I dont get the RPG's, the movies, the novels, LARPing, etc.

I do not understand the appeal.

I don't hate on it, but I just don't get it

The Hobbit and LOTR are pretty accessible to everyone. I don't consider it "high" fantasy or whatever they call it.

One of the reviews:

quote:

Tolkien could invent names and languages, but he couldn't create a plot at gunpoint.

Yeah. Not taking him seriously now.

Wow.

This movie could easily be rotten.

Early reviews usually favor the fantasy genre.

Exactly. Most people think Tolkien only wrote 4 books.
