There's no great candidates on top teams. Usually how it works. RG3 was an exception.

Lack of true stars except for some freshman from some farmer school in east Texas.

Definitely the answer is the lack of candidates, he was 5th or so at mid season, and everyone ahead of him fell back...... if 2011 Mathieu played in 2012.. that would be interesting to see Manziel, Manti Te'o, and Mathieu at the top 3

This PLUS the number of INT's he has as a linebacker is pretty note-worthy!

It's funny how the younger generation does not understand the media power that is ND. This is why the entire country fricking hates them. Remember when Brady Quin was the best QB ever?

He plays for Notre Dame.

His team is undefeated.

He hasn't been suspended from the team for drug use.

That sure as hell helps....like when Paul Hornung won it for a 2-8 Notre Dame in 1956. The player who finished 3rd (Tommy McDonald) actual had more 1st place votes. Or Tim Brown winning it in 1987 with 32 receptions and 3 TDs - the weakest stats among the top 10 in the voting that year.

Tyrann really hurt his stock when he was suspended. Many of the talking heads immediately said his Heisman hopes were over when he didn't play against Auburn. However, RG3 was a very strong candidate, and may have won regardless.

Tyrann's suspension is what really hurt him.

Some people really don't want a freshman to win it.

He's not. There simply is no Luck or RGIII this season. Had HoneyBadger played this year with the season he had last year -- he wins the Heisman easily.

ND is a media darling. They weren't able to ride them in recent years because they were irrelevant. They tried in the Brady Quinn era but lsu killed their program up until now in that 06-07 Sugar bowl.
