I don't have kids but my buddies that do are done--I mean done.

Better set your foot down now or forever hold your piece.

What's your personal situation? Both you and the wife work? how far is your place to hunt? Do you have other hobbies that take up your weekend time, like golf?

I can't imagine why your hunting wold be impacted too much unless the wife is just anti-hunting?

Congrats!
One kid isn't that bad. I would feed the kid at 3am and just head out when he was done. I have 3 now. I try to get home by 2 on days I go in the morning and leave the house around 12 on the days I hunt evenings. The oldest is 6 and I can get away for a night or 2 if I take him.

It slows you down a bit admittedly, but I still got time in and look forward to getting my children afield as they get a bit older.

Congrats...

I agree 100% with this. My wife has never cared what I did as far as hunting and fishing and such. I've got other buddies that can't get out of the house for shite. If they do, there's hell to pay in return.

My first one is due early February. I'm hunting as much as possible between now and the end of the year. She tells me to go and enjoy myself. I don't see me making any spring turkey hunts, but should he fine by the time bow season rolls around. We have a mutual understanding that my son is going to hunt and fish. She doesn't like me enough to request my presence around the house all of the time anyway. I did well in the wife department.

I agree that it depends on your situation as well. My wife stays at home. I feel like she needs some time to herself after spending all week with a 4 and 2 year old. I would be bat shite crazy after 3 days.
ETA:6 year old in 1st grade.

Sunday supper, cold beer at the table, and a blow job for dessert before letting you crash at 8PM after a long hard weekend at the camp?

In 5 years, I will have three boys old enough to go hunting with me. They will be 9, 7 and 5. My wife is gonna be on easy street so she better not give me no shite now

Mine are 6 and 8. I probably hunt more now than before they were born actually. Right after they were born I did slow down a little but have been able to hunt quite a bit the last few years.

I do however do my best to be back home and not away at the camp for a weekend unless the kids are going with me.

ETA: Congrats. It's an amazing experience.

With one it wasn't bad. The only problem was my wife liked to hunt too. We have a tight knit family so most of the time we could find a grandparent to keep my daughter for the weekend. We had our second child at the end of August and that's a different story! Having two is like having ten! .
Season opened weekend before Halloween and I've made 4 hunts.

Congrats to you and yours

Yeah, with her working, she may want you to take the reigns on weekends. You might want to build up some good will during the Summer. If you have other hobbies, maybe put one to the wayside for a few years.

I had one last October, and even with him having having a ton of problems I was able to make a good bit of hunts. The birth was rough on us all and my wife understood I needed that time to myself now and then to keep me from going insane. (I hunt about 20 min from my house though, and didn't camp any last year).

This year, he's one, and I plan to hunt as much as normal. If the baby is sick or my wife, I'll stay home. If my wife has something to do I'll arrange for a sitter or stay home. If my wife is home, I'm at the camp.

depends on the kid in my situation. my first born was sleeping through the night by like week 3...my newborn daughter is a whole lot different, needs a ton of attention (she's an attention whore already). so to sum it up, 4 years ago my hunting didn't suffer, now, it does.
