Anyone know anything about this?
In my years at LSU I never saw this. Yesterday morning there were hundreds of pelicans feeding. They were all packed in together on the north end of the university lake.
It was really phenomenal to see.

I saw them there a few years ago. None one day and then 2000 the next. Was pretty badass.

Indeed.
I looked it up and found this:
"What draws the majestic white pelican to Louisiana? The cuisine, of course.
Seymour said the birds nest in the interior lakes of North America as far north as Canada’s Alberta and Northwest Territories provinces and feed in Rocky Mountain ponds and lakes; but if those high-elevation waters freeze, the birds have to move.
“They follow the food,” Seymour said.
The birds eventually make their way down to the Bayou State some time during the fall. They always make a stop in the Mississippi Flyway but don’t always land in University Lake."

I have seen them in Morganza crossing the spillway and they were so thick it looked like snow from far away.

They usually come every year and stay for a month or so. It's an awesome sight and I get excited every year when I notice them.
I take the kids to feed the ducks at the little parking area on May St. sometimes (between Dalrymple & Morning Glory), and you can usually see (and smell) a bunch from there. It seems like they like to roost (?--is that the right word?) on one of the peninsulas for one of those really nice houses on E. Lakeshore. I'm sure the people living there really enjoy the smell!

I used to see them when I ran around the lakes back in the 80s.
Where I live now, pelicans are sitting on every boat slip pilings. All summer it was seagulls on the pilings, but since the cold fronts came through, the pelicans took over.

Last year they were chasing shad or some kind of small fish around the lake. Pretty impressive...
