Everyone is freaking out about Mingo and Montgomery leaving. And we should be, they are as good as any duo in the nation. But, you cant keep players forever. With Hunter impressing already at LSU and Rasco in line to be the guy, I dont see as big of a drop off as others might. Yes, it will look diff and there will be a slight drop off, but both guys have the tools to be very good DEs. And, look at who we have coming in and possibly have in the 2014 class.

Frank Herron is 1 of the least talked about commits we have right now, and the kid is going to be a player and contribute right away. Christian Lacouture reminds me of Brockers when he was a recruit. 6'5 265+ that moves really well for a guy his size. I see him moving inside to DT at LSU. Lewis Neal reminds me of Melvin Ingram from USCe last year. A utility DL thats a little short for him position, but makes up for it with brute strength and a non stop motor. And then there is Michael Patterson, who is the definition of a speed rushing DE. And, there is still Kendell Beckwith and Tim Williams out there. Both are in our backyard. If we get 1 of the 2, its a win. If we get both, this may well be our best DE class we've had in a while.

Then, look at 2014. Gerald Willis already has the size to play right away. Really hope we can land him. And 1 of my favorite recruits for 2014 class is Davon Godchaux out of Plaquemine. Hes a 6'4 245lbs kid who is very athletic. Almost a clone of Sam Montgomery as a recruit. If we offer him early, I think he will commit immediately.

I will miss Mingo and Montgomery just like everybody else. They have been 2 great tigers and will continue to do great things at the NFL level. But if they go pro, its not the end of the world. We have enough talent on the team and coming in and enough talent in the state to get the players we need in the future to have dominating DEs for years to come. Just kinda eats at me when people think losing those 2 guys means we will be horrible at DE next season.

Will Mingo even leave if/when he is told it is unlikely he will be picked in the first this year due to his lack of production and lack of bulk even for a LB? I don't get the automatic assumption he is gone.

Everthing ive seen still has him as top 10 picks. Ive heard Kiper and draft analysts talking about him. They were saying Montgomery is having a better year production wise, but Mingo still goes ahead because of his freak athletic ability. 6'5 240lbs guys that run low legit 4.48 - 4.53s dont come around often. They see him as a better NFL player than a college player because of his upside and how he hasnt come closed to peaking. Some say the opposite about Montgomery.

Show me a 3-4 OLB besides Jarvis Jones better than him...

That's the point, Jones is in a different world risk/reward wise. Jones has elite production and more of an NFL ready body now. Mingo has the build of a tall safety and is on track for only 5 sacks this year as a pass rush specialist. Does that sound like sure fire 1st rounder to you?

As for "draft experts" every year at this time they have a player or two ranked as a first rounder that will end up being a 6 7 or undrafted FA, so that's hardly Gospel.

Hopefully M & M and Reid are all the underclassmen that we lose.

Either way, I won't be beside myself if he chooses to go elsewhere. If he ends up here though, I'll be happy, though.

Really?? Not getting any pass rush?? He has 10 of our 35 QB hurries.I believe he leads the SEC in QB hurries. Teams are aware of him and his speed, so when they see Mingo getting pressure they just throw it away. Just because he doesnt have as many sacks as other players doesnt mean he isnt getting pressure. Because he def is.

Rivals has him listed at 6'5 270lbs and runs a 4.8 40. Not sure how accurate these #s are but thats what they have him listed as. He most likely will move inside to DT.

its funny how other teams are so scared of him they just throw it away but they are more than willing to take sacks from every other DE in America. What a rep he must have!

Didnt take any bait haha. Maximus said he isnt getting any pressure, and thats false. Thats all. But, this thread isnt about where Montgomery and Mingo get drafted. its about the future of our DEs.
