Went brush the duck blind today in Loreauville for the east zone opener. Saw a ton of ducks. Looked like lots of teal with some greys mixed in. Also had a lot of reports of there being lots of woodducks. One week!

Same story for richland parish. Lots of teal, gads, and pins. Not many mallards

Opening day was this past saturday for us. We saw more ducks when we brushed 2 wks ago.... South wind pushed up too much water into Reggio, ducks dont like water they cant feed in
But, we did ok considering how few ducks we saw. Hunted sunday for a couple hours killed 12 with a mojo with one wing Only thing we have are greys, teal and a few pintail... don't get mallards down here. Oh, I forgot the dogs and spoonies are everywhere

From every report I got from the youth hunt this weekend was amazing. Some kids even killed limits of mallards

Glad you cats have birds. West zone an hour north of lake chuck has nothing. BUT I did kill 3 mallards yesterday, that salvaged my weekend. Sitting in the blind alone freezing right now and have only seen one group of ring necks. Kinda kicking myself for burning a vacation day right now.

Cant wait til this weekend! I hope this year goes better than last. Seems like every hunt i made the hunt was ruined due to heavy fog.

yea fog was BRUTAL last year some days we couldnt even see our decoys which are no more than a few yards away

but good news is that we have had a lot of cold weather early this year...seemed like last year it was always hot with a ton of mosquitos

East Zone youth hunt Sunday was lights out, a 10-yr old and a 13-yr old limited with 8 grays and 4 GWs in an hour.

Was in Delacroix for Coastal Zone opener on Saturday and it was slow. We got our 18 but it took 'till 9:00. 10 grays, 5 GW, 2 spoons, 1 mottled

Back at them tomorrow through Sunday, good luck fellas

Just an FYI, if you can get over to Texas, they are mopping them up in the marshes. You are gonna need a Go Devil type to get into McFaddin NWR because 2 levee breaks have made the water low but the spaced blinds that still have water have been kicking arse. I have heard Anahuac has done well too.

My lease is in that area and 5 of us shot 28 grays and 2 summer mallards today. Wind was crazy and the grays were flying all day.
