I love Chavis, but I still can't figure out why we wnet to a prevent D on the final drive. Any coaches out there?

Not a coach, but I think we were playing to give Bama a shot at a long FG and avoid the TD.

This. They brought an extra man AND played off on the corners. It was like taking candy from a baby.

AJ was 1 for 7 for ZERO yards in the 2nd half before the final drive. Why did we change anything?

Has anyone asked Chavis that question?

Like so much else that our coaches seem to do at the worst possible times....it doesn't make any sense.

Chavis gets paid a million a year for putting one of the best defenses in the game out there year after year after year.

No disrespect intended, but I will guess Chavis knows something none of us do. He will sometimes get something wrong but we will get it wrong basically all the time.

Not playing tight coverage on the sidelines stops the clock.

Didn't we, with a late lead, go into the prevent defense to no avail against South Carolina and Texas A&M?

The sad thing is, they did it TWICE. They drove down the field with less than 2 minutes in both the 2nd and 4th quarters. 14 of their 21 points were scored in the 2 minute offense.

The only play we didn't blitz on that drive was the one that was incomplete... Don't know why people keep bringing up Prevent D... The TD was scored on with both sides blitzing..

True, but they gave up the underneath stuff as a result. As long as you hold them to under 10 yds, that's fine. No time outs, the clock runs. Problem was they gave up the sideline and 10 yds plus on every play, which stopped the clock.

That said, I'm proud of this team. Sucks that we didn't get the W, but I'm encouraged by their play.

He has done this numerous times and gives up too much yardage!!

UT fans hated this about Chavis when with the Vols...And he still hasn't learned.

Not real sure what happened - would like to hear it from him but I will say he called a hell of a game against them to that point and that kept us in it. Still love our D!

I thought it was just a zone defense, not "prevent". It worked earlier, but on that drive the WR's found the holes in it, and Alabama held better and got time to throw

They thought they could bend and not break

Trade seconds for yards

Just didn't work

its not about blizting or not blitzing, its about playing your DBs 10 yards off the fricking WR and letting them complete out routes for 10 yards with frickin ease and stopping the damn clock.
