Or are they just waiting until the last week to move them up, since I've told if ND is undefeated, they will be in the title game due to their bigger name brand.

many people on here keep insisting that if Notre Dame is undefeated, they will be in the BCS CG because name brand will carry them. I disagree, I think if oregon wins out, they will remain #2 in the human polls.

I will say that I was in the belief that if they finish undefeated there would be no way they would get left out. That said if two of the three other current undefeated teams are still there I could see Notre Dame being left out easily. I really do not think it will matter though.

This thread is just one example

Other's have said it

quote:

Bama and ND. Other 2 don't have the clout of those 2. If all 4 go undefeated, that will be your title game.

Z has said it on several occasions.

quote:

f ND is good enough to be in the race, the voters will give them the push to the finish line...people in their teens/20's just don't get that....that's just how it is - the 50+ year old public/voters are itching to help ND out. I don't know if its changed but the average age of the Harris Poll voters used to be quite old. Coaches aren't young either.

quote:

It should be ND and KSU they have the 2 toughest schedules. But in reality its Alabama and ND

Who has said this?

The top two in the polls are going to be in the title game. If Alabama and Oregon win out, that's the game. Oregon is going to get increasingly strong in the computers anyway

ND will need help to get in the title game. Before the season, no one dreamed they'd go undefeated against their schedule and most said that if they did go undefeated, they deserved to be in the title game. Doesn't appear so right now.

I may be in the minority but I don't get all of the Kansas St love. ND and Kansas St played 2 common opponents - Miami and OU. And ND beat those teams by a wider margin.

Would be a good year for a 4 team playoff.

ND beat Miami 41-3, KSU beat them 52-13.

I don't think brand will carry them. I thought resume would carry them somewhat. However, now that they keep almost losing to terrible teams, probably not.

True, basically the same margin there. I was looking at their common opponents collectively. ND beat OU 30-13. KSU beat OU 24-19.

Notre Dame's big thing was that Oregon's biggest win was thought to be at USC, while Kansas State's was at Oklahoma.

Notre Dame would have won in both of those places.

But now, with three ranked teams still on Oregon's schedule, that's probably not true anymore.

No conference championship =no title chance. O.T. with Pitt.at home is just sad.

As already pointed out, their schedule seemed a lot tougher preseason but almost every team on it ended up underachieving to some degree.

I think another aspect that had some people convinced ND would get the necessary poll votes was a somewhat dubious belief that Alabama got in last year mainly on name brand whereas the "eye test" played a much larger factor (along with when and to whom the losses came).

Oregon is the "#2" team that has seemed that dominant so far this year and the human polls are reflecting that regardless of name brand with Kansas St also having more of a "wow" factor than ND and getting more #3 votes.

Name was a factor for Alabama, but it certainly wasn't the only one. The Eyeball test was the biggest factor, they lost earlier than OSU and Stanford and were ranked ahead of those teams all year. This year Oregon has been #2 all year. They aren't dropping unless they lose. In a vacuum ND has a bigger name, but Oregon (unlike Ok St) is viewed as an elite program now as well and they are passing the eyeball test this year.

Yeah, that's a good point. Some people really go overboard with the network TV / media conspiracy theories etc regarding the big names when a larger factor is the perception of a program as "elite" gleaned by fielding great teams over numerous seasons.

It's still a bit problematic since we try to maintain a myth that seasons are discreet (when they're inevitably looked at by pollsters more as discreet series) but hardly points to conspiracy.

Oregon being ranked above Kansas St supports your point as well. Kansas St is at least a couple of more Top 5 type seasons in a row behind Oregon.
