Saban at LSU:

2000 Home loss to UAB. But hey it's year one,so no need to mention the other three losses.
2001 Won an SEC championship, somehow lost at home by two scores to Ole Miss, and two more losses.
2002 Blown out by Virginia Tech, Lost to Alabama schools 62-7,Miracle on Markham (goodbye SEC West championship) beaten by UT, etc etc.
2003 Wait, we are good enough to win an BCS crown and we lose to Ron Zook by two scores ?
2004 Year five and we are losing in shitty fashion to Auburn and getting BLOWN OUT by Georgia and losing in the last seconds (again) to a mediocre Big Ten team?

The point is NOT that Saban sucked at LSU.
The point is not that Nick Saban is not the best coach in the business. That's up to you to decide.
But let's be factual people. Let's respect history.
He lost less than three games in a season exactly ONCE.
And the Tiger Rant melted down then too.
You should have been here after the Iowa game or when Xavier Whatsiname kneeled down on the Georgia one.
Saban's losses were by FAR greater margin.
And he lost to inferior opponents.
And he had more inexplicable last minute meltdowns in critical games.
Saban at Alabama is a different animal than Saban at LSU.
I am glad that we have higher expectations for Les than we did for Nick.

Good post, I agree, I think Saban has just gotten better as a coach since leaving LSU

and I think his recruiting and development is what separates him from most.

Miles/LSU is the only program that frankly can compete with Alabama...they are blowing everyone else out....huge talent advantage

Saban at Bama is 10x better than he was at LSU. At Bama, he is like "super saban." Mofo is damn near unstoppable. We almost got him last night though.

God y'all are dumb.

Saban built LSU into a powerhouse. Miles didn't. Miles has done a great job sustaining what Saban built.

Just remember 2006(7 draft picks, all his recruits) and miles found a way to lose at auburn that year, Saban wins MNC if he's at LSU
2007- We win MNC with all Sabans recruits, despite Les losing 2 games.

Best thing Saban did for LSU football was to build that practice facility (from what I read the practice logistics were third rate when he got here) and student center. That definitely has been a boon to recruiting efforts. That put this team on par with the top programs.

But the OP is right, it still takes a great coach to get the recruits in here and get them motivated. The recruits that come to LSU really don't know or care that Saban was ever here. These kids are only 17 and 18 years old, they don't know what they ate for dinner yesterday, much less who coached at LSU 10 years ago when they were 8. What they know is that they like Les Miles. Has nothing to do with Saban.

There are plenty of teams with great practice facilities that can't win 7 games. Miles was such a great fit for what LSU needed that it makes it seem as if Saban made this team and Miles is just keeping the car on the road.

If you look back historically, you'll see that what Miles is doing is very remarkable. Very seldom does a coach follow a national championship winning coach and win one for himself. The hardest thing to do in coaching is to follow a winner. You'd have to go back to the late 80's Miami Hurricanes and Jimmy Johnson to find a comparable example. To actually perform BETTER than your predecessor did when he was here is even more rare, but that's what Miles has done. It just so happens that Saban is doing even better at Alabama. That doesn't reflect badly on Miles though.

I would say most of the credit is money. If you look at rankings of money spent and recruiting success, you'll find out why certainly teams are consistently strong. Bama outspends LSU by quite a bit in recruiting and overal athletics spending.

Subtle argument.
Here's my question to you.
Lets assume you are correct -SABAN IS BETTER THAN MILES.
My next question is, how do we lure him back to LSU ?
Is this imminent ?
Will your histrionics make that happen ?
Is your tearflow and butthurt somehow correlated to Nick's career aspirations ?
If you cry hard enough will he come back to you ?
If your panties get wet enough, will he take you back ?
You really need to start acting like a fricking man and quit being so moist for a guy who already has a gig.

He's a better coach at Bama but the overall program there was in much better shape when he go there. LSU was building up the program adding some facilities, some that he asked for. Bama's only problem was shitty coaching. They had the facilities for the most part.
