While i agree that we wouldnt be where we are if not for Saban, would it be true that Bear Bryant made Alabama what it is (prestige wise), and Saban benefits from that ? OF COURSE NOT !!!

Saban did a great job at LSU. Les is also doing a hell of a job...

or, Saban is just winning with the Bear's program

what was the gap between bear retiring and saban taking over?

what was the gap between saban leaving and miles taking over?

Good post, I agree, I think Saban has just gotten better as a coach since leaving LSU

There's no denying that Saban is a great coach. He did what he did at LSU and then took the same system/philosophy to one of the most storied programs in college football history. He put a recruiting wall around Louisiana to create a great team in BR. Now, the whole country is his for the picking at Bama.

Miles (and Chavis too) made some bad decisions yesterday, but they made a helluva lotta good ones too. The game plan was solid and the team fired on most cylinders.

We are lucky to have Coach Miles, imperfections and all.

Saban is a much better coach now than he was then. So is Miles. Coaches either improve and keep improving or get fired.

saban was building the program in 2004 still

So in December 2004 against Iowa we were rebuilding and September against Arizona State we were built.

I know I shouldn't be amazed but still I'm amazed.
But what can I do.
Revisionists are gonna revision.

No, it's conjecture, not fact. And even if you believe that, what's the point of living in that mindset? My sex life would be better if my wife had bigger tits, but she doesn't. Move. The. frick. On.

ETA: there is a very fine line separating LSU and Bama right now. FACT.

the cap one bowl was a shite show b/c he was already gone. he should have never coached that game. should have just left

we were absolutely stacked in 2005. our losses that year were due to miles' stupidity.

we were stacked in 2004, except for QB. that problem was solved in 2005

Saban is where he is because of LSU. Dont think he would be at Bama if he wasnt at LSU 1st

Well, you can't have it both ways, is Saban still recruiting for us or is Les or is nobody?
And i think you said earlier that this would also be the case with any "moron HC"? Ever thought of going into politics?

The bottom line is that it takes a great coach to keep a good thing going. He has to be good in his own right. This isn't Dennis Erickson winning a championship in his first year with JJ's players. Miles just went 13-0 in his 7th season before having to play a Saban-led team twice in a season, which I don't think any coach in the country would be successful against.

Miles' team right now has almost zero to do with Saban, other than it was Saban's foresight that built up LSU's facilities and put them on par with the national powers. The kids that Miles recruits were 8 when Saban was at LSU. Most of them don't know or care about his time with LSU. Kids today don't give a damn about what a team did 10 years ago.

Miami had a ridiculous run of success, as recently as 10 years ago. There's no rule that says that it will continue regardless of who is at the helm.

Well what about the Georgia game in 2004. The one we lost by 30 ? Should he have coached that ? Or the loss to Auburn where our offense was in reverse the whole game ? Should he have sat that one out too ? Or how about the 4 point win against Troy ? Should Saban have intentionally missed the team bus over to Tiger Stadium for that game too ?

Hell yeh I think Saban benefits from what Bear did at Bama. When recruiting top prospects it must be nice to sell your traditions to the recruits. Couple that with what Saban has done and that Bama will spare nothing to be the best and you get the best recruits.

Great players make coaches great.

revenge for 2003. UGA may have been the 2nd best team in the country in 2003, and we broke their hearts...twice

that was a fluke game. UGA was just on. even that lazy piece of shite WR they had was playing his arse off

AU was a better team than us and we had shitty QB play.

how about the 2008 game v. Troy?

who was ready in 2004...Randall, Ricard, Clauson? I think everyone pretty much knew Mauck was gone after 2003, he had nothing left to do in school, was married and in his mid-20's.

You're doing a great job on justifying all of Saban's frickups. Great job.

You really don't understand his point?

LSU is relevant. Recruits think of the best teams in the country and LSU is in the top 5. It is because of what Saban built.

Tell me how great Miles recruiting classes were at Ok. St. were if the perception of the school isn't a factor. If he is a great recruiter he should be able to get tem wherever he is.

Why does slamming Saban help you feel better. Had Saban never left: LSU probably wins national titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2011.

Let that sink in.

It's quite obvious that you have no clue what Miles took over when he got to Okie St.
