re: Texas threatens to arrest UN observers

Why exactly is the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe monitoring U.S. elections?

And, under what specific authority does "The United States, like all countries in the OSCE, has an obligation to invite ODIHR observers to observe its elections”?

Exactly. All Republicans want to reinstitute a poll tax. Hell, we really just want to take sufferage away from minorities. Oh, a women too. Let's not forget about the war on women. We won't be happy unless only white, males over 21 who own property can vote.

According to Rick Perry there are 3 reasons for arrest.

1. Trespassing
2. Voter Intimidation
3. Well, he couldn't remember the third one.

Go read the preamble to the UN Charter you moron. It actually completely negates this argument. Are you really this stupid?

“The OSCE may be entitled to its opinions about Voter ID laws, but your opinion is legally irrelevant in the United States, where the Supreme Court has already determined that Voter ID laws are constitutional,” Abbott wrote. “If OSCE members want to learn more about our election processes so they can improve their own democratic systems, we welcome the opportunity to discuss the measures Texas has implemented to protect the integrity of elections. However, groups and individuals from outside the United States are not allowed to influence or interfere with the election process in Texas.”

A very reasonable approach. Texas has got this thing under control.

Texas election laws do prohibit loitering within 100 ft of polling.

But given steps by Republicans to make it harder for people to vote over the last few years, I can see why Republicans don't want anyone to spoil their efforts.

Too hard for people to get IDs? LOL!

"Observing" is not "intervening".

If they want to break Texas law and get closer than 100 feet, then they are intervening in the Texas election process.

If they want to follow the law and stay 100 feet away, then they are free to do that just as I am free to do that.

I agree. As long as these (air quotes) "observers" don't do anything in violation of Texas law, then let them observe and learn a thing or two.

However, if they're there to (air quotes) "monitor" as part of some shite stirring later on, then I hope Texas runs their asses in jail.

U.S. treaties trump state's rights.

I did not know this. Just did a quick search apparently Treaties supercede states rights, but not federal ones. See Reid v. Covert

re: Texas threatens to arrest UN observers

Everyone please rise for the National Anthem:

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long

And now:

I've seen a lot of places,
I've been around the world.
I've seen some pretty faces,
Been with some beautiful girls.
After all I've witnessed,
One thing still amazes me,
Just like a miracle,
You have to see to believe.

'Cause God blessed Texas
With His own hand.
Brought down angels
From the promised land.
He gave them a place
Where they could dance.
If you wanna see heaven, brother,
Here's your chance.
'Cause I've been sent
To spread the message:
God blessed Texas.

Alabama has said they will be passing laws that disallows non-registered voters anywhere near polling places.

If you can't vote you can't be there.

Makes sense -

Why do I have a feeling I'll see Chinese soldiers around voting booths before I die.
