Sports conspiracy theories that you believe could be true

Did David Stern rig the '85 NBA draft? Did Liston take a dive? Was Jordan's first "retirement" really a hidden suspension?

For me personally, I have no doubt in my mind that the 2007 West Virginia/Pitt game was fixed. Pitt won in spite of the blatant cheating.

I was at the SECCG, so I missed most of the game heading home. Only caught the end. What are you referring to?

I think that the White Sox definitely threw the 1919 World Series.

That game was definitely fixed. They were trying so hard to WVU into the title game. I'm glad the refs failed.

Steinbrenner's collusion and basketball teams losing to get a lotto pick!

My favorite was that Sir David Murray was covering up rampant cheating during his time at Rangers. Turned out to be absolutely true and the fallout's just starting to hit.

I also believe that Stuart McCall fixes all of his matches in Rangers' favor.

The SFA is a bastion of Orangeism which has as its main objective the destruction of Celtic FC and all that the club represents.

Ohhhh, I misread. I thought he was saying the refs were trying to prop Pitt up. I do remember some questionable calls for WVU.

Yes. Gambling was outta control. Truth would have been too damaging to league.

ETA: Heard this from family friend who was in NBA long before I heard it from anywhere else.

With all due respect to one of my favorite posters on the interwebs, Keys Open Doors, I would totally believe it was revealed that UNLV 1991 tanked to Duke.

YES. After Stern retires it will come out. This is a lock, though. IMO

Two games in '09 for Bama were really iffy to keep them perfect...but that's probably not conspiracy...just down home SEC cooking.

Refgate. LSU@Auburn was definitely fixed. One call is bad enough, 5-6 calls is blatant.

And MLB and Bart Giamatti conspired to keep Pete Rose out of the Hall of Fame by claiming false gambling accusations.......Nah. Just kidding. I can't back that up...

They can say the Lottery was invented as a result of Houston landing the Twin Towers. It was actually created SPECIFICALLY to guarantee that Patrick Ewing would get to New York.
