Anybody going to this show?

Went 2 years ago and they had the upstairs closed and tables on the floor next to the stage.

Went last year and I was packed in like a sardine in front of the stage.

I have really enjoyed the REK shows I've been to, but it seems like he shows absolutely no emotion on stage, just goes out there, sings, and goes home. This was especially true last year, as he didn't even sign autographs after.

Isn't that what he's supposed to do?

He is an older dude. Been there done that. Think George Strait but nowhere NEAR as huge.

At that age if he was still pounding beer and trying to chase college aged tail it would be a little sad.

I've never had a problem with talented, older musicians performing like this. It just comes with age and maturity from what I've seen.

It is now, but most people eventually realize that's no way to live forever. People tend to lose that energy and enthusiasm.

Agreed, he went through the motions his first set last year but made up for it during his double encores

This.

Saw REK last year and he isn't necessarily high energy, but that's just the way he is now- but I think the crowd had enough energy (and alcohol) to make it fun

The guy is clean and sober after years of partying hard. I like the fact that he doesn't jump all over the place and you can concentrate on the lyrics of his songs and the outstanding band that he has.

I saw a mediocre perfomance at HOB-N.O.

I also saw one of at the Varsity in the last couple of years that was very good.

However, to enjoy it you needed to know his newer material as well as his old stuff.

Personally, I like 'The Rose Hotel', which he played a lot of that night.

Sorry to say I'll miss this week at the V.

When I saw him a few years back (5-7 maybe) in Atlanta his backing band was mediocre at best. Brotherton was great; the rest not very good. Losing Duckworth left a big hole in the band.

That's been a while so hopefully his band is better now.

Brotherton is really who I had in mind when I made that comment I guess.

I saw a mediocre show at Tips in 2007. Even if it would have been a great show, it wouldn't have mattered because of all the people talking the entire time, not paying any attention to the show.

Every show I've seen him play at the Varsity has been good.

I haven't seen him live since the 90s, but he used to be pretty funny on stage and tell stories between songs... I found him entertaining...

I had an awesome time. Just as good if not the best I've seen him.
