Is it that hard to conceive:

-that football coaches might be a person of average to slightly above average intelligence?
-that someone who is of above-average to great intelligence, might be able to comprehend or understand the rules/strategy of a game the same as or better than someone who has an occupation in that game?
-that someone outside of a situation, might be able to see the flaws better than someone on the inside of a situation?

not saying that these things apply to me, others, to members of this coaching staff. but are these things conceivable?

Haha smart at football doesnt mean they are smart people.. But there are a lot of smart people that are football coaches. So, to answer you, i dont know. Depends on the coach i guess.

Its a game contigent upon a significant human element.

Sorry

That being said, i know many coaches who display wisdom but may lack empirical intelligence. Also know some high profile fricking idiots.

Some are, some are not.

I would imagine there are lots of smart people that would make poor coaches as well as lots of dumb people that would make poor coaches.

I also imagine that a lot of smart people would make good coaches and lots of dumb people would make good coaches.

They are sort of interchangeable. I know some coaches that are very successful and are undeniably morons. I also know some coaches that are very smart yet not so successful as coaches.

Agreed. 1 of the best assets a coach can have is being able to relate to his players and explain things in terms they can understand. So, a rocket scientist might have trouble putting in to words what he wants when explaining some things to 20 year old college athletes, while a regular joe can explain it to them and they get it the 1st time he says it.
