Typically I will start with a shallow running crank bait (4-7 ft), usually in a smoked shad color. Suspending jerk bait, or plastic fluke comes next. If the bite is really tough, or bass are holding deep or tight to cover, a shaky head with a trick work usually does the trick.

If none of that works, time to dip into the "panic box," sac-a-lait type baits, have done well on some of these, and hey, if I catch a nice stringer of perch, I can still chalk it up in the win column.

What say the OB?

I generally am fishing hydrilla in the Fall. Not by choice, but that's just where I spend my time in October.

I target points in the grass and shear walls. I can always catch a lunch-sack on a short c-rig with finesse worms.

Forgot about that, c-rig stays tied on. I usually target creeks in the fall, start shallow and move out as needed.

lipless crankbait on points is probably my favorite way to catch em this time of year

I spent one Thanksgiving at TB a couple years ago. Someone here said Rogue. It was money, so I tie on a minnow bait this time of year if fishing banks.

With a crank, preferably square bill but others get abused too.

You need to come out the IC one weekend while were camping out there. You and the wifey to eat and drink and watch a game or something, or you to come fishing

And I havent tried one. I went to the square bill last fall and murdered them. Always use a crank but usually have to make it hit bottom or grass or something. Didnt have to with a square. I actually used an Academy brand with the most luck. Of course they discontinued my favorite color

Sounds good to me, let me know when. Been a while since I fished Indian, usually hit it up in the spawn and get on some beds.
JSR I think stands for jointed shad rap, nice wobble, and great around stumps. I can bang it around like a sq. bill and not get hung up. But it is my go-to crank bait, so I am more "in tune" with what it's doing than others.
They make a few different versions for different depts, jsr-3, 4, 5, and 7, those are the ones that I have seen.

Not if you originally set out for bass. You're killing just to kill.

All depends on how you tell the story.
Bass weren't biting, so I started fishing for sac-a-lait.
I fish to fill the freezer brah.

Killing just to kill?!?! Wtf Just because it's not your first choice to catch doesnt mean you want throw back or eat. Hell I go for bass primarily but would rather WP to eat
