| More Improbable: DiMaggo's hitting streak v. Brees' TD streak (Posted on 10/8/12 at 2:03 pm)
What is the average batting average? .250ish? Average number of at bats? 4 to 5? Average number of TD passes per game by a single team? one? two? just curious, if anyone bored thought this out.

DiMaggio. It is statistically less likely.

Joe's streak will never be broken, so I'll say his. Not even close, imo

I'm not sure Brady doesn't break the same record THIS season.

DiMaggio did it when it was much easier for score keepers to "accidentally" call an error a hit. just sayin

Well, that is just an asinine statement. According to tens of thousands of simulations of the history of baseball, a 56-game or greater hit streak occurs once in about the half of the simulations. It is an absolutely astonishing accomplishment, but it surely can be done again.

I mean when ever someone gets to 20 straight in baseball, they get extreme media attention. No one knows that Matty check down has a streak of 20

Dimaggio's hitting streak is way more impressive and improbable. A hitter usually gets 4-5 plate appearances a game while the QB gets to throw the ball over 30 times or in Brees' case 40 times a game.

When's the last time someone came close to Joe's hitting streak? With much better pitching, situational pitchers, the intentional walk, rising strikeout rates, I doubt it ever gets broken. Less than 1% chance. With today's NFL and the emphasis on passing, that isn't a record that will last forever.

Hitting streak. Nobody has even come close to it. Marino got within distance early in career and Brady is coming up now. Plus the game and philosophy has changed in football in the scoring areas.

It will never be broken. No one even approaches it any more.

Because defenses haven't improved in the NFL, better athletes aren't playing on them, there are no situational pass rushers, etc... That said, the hitting streak is the more difficult one, but not for the reasons that everyone is listing.

I believe Pete Rose and Wee Willie Keeler are the second closest to Joe with 44 game hitting streaks.
