Really nothing new or enlightening in that article... Its what people have said all along...

Except there were more interesting bands being booked back in the 90s... BR will never be a big stop for a lot of touring bands...

Don't worry...they're all being booked again now. When they are washed up and irrelevant

As the article said, its close to New Orleans. Had a convo with some friends about jam bands playing Baton Rouge. It won't happen. Too close to Baton Rouge. When WSP plays Nola, people come from all over the country for the weekend. People would not come to BR. I cannot see a band playing BR and Nola in the same tour.

That said, I'd love to see more bands come through BR. :cheers

Bush, Henry Rollins, Matisyahu, Corey Smith, Bassnectar, MuteMath, Robert Earl Keen, Rebelution, Wolfgang Gartner, Kendrick Lamar, Alan Jackson. That’s just a sampling of the talent making its way through town this fall. As the talent buyer of the Varsity Theatre, I might have a little bit of insight as to why this is happening.

That's a whole bunch of meh for me. I know there is some talent, but that's not the upper crust of musicians by any stretch of the imagination. Hell, the best band on there is basically local.

Not a good idea. The ventilation won't be able to handle all the patchouli oil.

No where in BR.

I don't think the city could handle it . Besides why play BR when they have new Orleans ties and can sell out any venue in that city, a city that is proven to love them. They did play Fred's a few times in the early 90s though

I thought they played the varsity but I wasn't sure so I didn't mention it. I had no idea about the other place though.

This is just the beginning. Now that the venue has established some cred with national acts that people actually want to see, it will just be popping up on more radars in the near future.

The magic doesn't happen over night, fellas. It takes lots of time, effort and a shite ton of networking (which is something Bowen is a certified badass at). So just be patient, if there is a demand for a certain act to come to Baton Rouge, Bowen will do all that he can to see that it happens.
