this is pretty laughable. the varsity gets maybe one decent concert a year. baton rouge is a horrible music town. basically everything baton rouge gets can be summarized as "college shite." to see some good concerts, you have to head to new orleans.

while BR does not have the best music scene, this statement right here is full of bullshite. You obviously don't keep up with any of the shows elsewhere in the city.

Baton Rouge has been getting some really great shows

I know of a couple of traveling bands that like playing Baton Rouge over New Orleans.

Nola is a great music city, but it's over saturated with shows just about every night

Hell, in the house of blues they'll have two shows going on in the same night at the parish and the HOB

I keep up with other shows, but I was referring to the article written by the talent buyer at the varsity and the shows specifically the varsity gets. I've actually met the guy once or twice. Varsity is awful and Spanish Moon gets a bunch of mediocre indie bands. I'd love to know places that get decent shows in br though.

Spanish Moon has Melvins and The Sword playing soon. I wouldn't consider them mediocre.

The sword are pretty meh, and Melvins is like the first show in baton rouge worth going to in months.

not saying baton rouge doesn't occasionally get decent shows, but what that guy listed in the article is terrible and is no indicator of baton rouge having any kind of real music scene.

That sums up BR well... Its a college town, without a strong local music scene...

You will get occasional good shows and, if lucky, will get a good regional band pass through town a few times on their way up or flame out...

Just happy there are still people willing to get those bands in, many have thrown in the towel...
