I remember being at LSU stadium, and during the game a building next to the stadium caught fire and was burning. It did not cause a hazard to the stadium, but it was really bizarre cause you could see the flames as you sat in the stadium. The fire was coming from a building directly east of the stadium.

A couple of young co-workers call "bs" on my story and say I'm confused. They say it was the 1996 LSU/Auburn game at Auburn that had a fire. I realize that game had a fire too, but this was between 86-89 at Tiger Stadium. Does anyone remember this? If so, fill me in so I can enlighten this young generation. Thanks.

We were at the Auburn game and did witness the fire in '96, but not familiar with the fire you speak of.

I remember this vividly. What might be throwing you off is that the ramps from the east upper deck at Auburn look just like the ones at LSU. But, remember, the east upper deck at LSU didn't exist until 2000.

I don't remember this at all. The only building that would have been in the location that you described was the power house. Maybe it was just venting steam?

I remember the crotch house burning down in the '70's. And now that the statute of limitations has expired...

Yes that was at Jordan-Hare Stadium on the campus of Auburn University in 1996.

I was a student at LSU from '80-'84 and attended many games then and in the rest of the '80's. There was never a fire on LSU's campus during a game. However, Coates Hall did burn in the early 80's.

It was in the direction of Coates Hall, like Hatcher or Johnston Hall. The flames rised above the east side of the stadium. This was prior to the east side upper deck. Had to be mid-late 80's. It was a 'night game."

I was a season ticket holder in the mid to late 80s and I don't remember any fires on LSU's campus during a game. I do remember the huge fire at AU during the game in 96 though.

I was in BR 80-88 and I got season tickets after applying and waiting for several years. We went to most home games and I do not remember a fire at Tiger stadium. I do remember a big fire at an away game where a neigboring campus building had a big fire. It probably was Auburn.

No, it was not the Auburn game. I'm aware of that incident. It happen between 86-89. It was an LSU building directly east of the stadium. It was not a big TV game (i.e. Ole Miss or Bama), but it was at night. The flames were quite large.

I was a student from 84-89 and I do not remember any fire. What you describe sounds exactly like the Auburn game at Auburn which was televised.

It didn't happen. The ONLY fire during an LSU game was the 96 Auburn game. As one poster noted, not even Google comes up with anything. I've been watching LSU since the late 70's and do not know of any such game.

1996
LSU defeated Auburn 19-15 in 1996 while the old Auburn Sports Arena, affectionately called "the Barn", burned to the ground across the street from Jordan-Hare Stadium. After scoring a touchdown, Auburn trailed 17-15 and attempted the two-point conversion. LSU intercepted the pass and returned it for a 19-15 win. The fire began when a tailgater placed a barbecue grill too close to the building. Scenes of the fire were captured by ESPN during the national broadcast as flames were seen as high as the Jordan-Hare east upper-deck. The game was never delayed, and the Auburn public address announcer continually advised fans not to worry: "the stadium [was] not on fire; the flames [were] outside the stadium." Because of the fire and the thrilling finish, the game became known as the "Barn Burner".

You're confused. Maybe you hit a wormhole during the game.
