At what point do you have real confidence in Jalen Mills?

He is playing great - especially for a true freshman. But, what does he have to do for you to really see his play as an area of strength going into a game instead of a question mark because of inexperience?

I think that if he plays on par with how he has played over the next 3 weeks, we are there. In other words, if he continues to shut guys down, make great plays, and create turnovers, I think it is possible that we can leave the Florida game feeling like we have 2 shutdown corners again. That's a big "IF" I know, but I think he is capable of being that guy this year.

He will miss some assignments and get beat a couple times this season like all CBs (pp7,Mo, and Tyrann included) and will be crucified for them because he is a freshman and doesnt have the love that those players have.

That being said I have all the confidence in the world in him.

Yeah a lot of pressure on a true frosh but I think he can get props when he does satisfactory against a premier opp. IMO

for the most part, our cb's have been a pleasant surprise with their cover and tackling performance. Mills has shown inate skill sets beyond his years and with continued improvement will be a huge asset as the season progresses. he is a quick study who not only listens well....but writes down what the coaches stress as critical to his responsibilities. his parents taught him well.

Yet another weekend, now three in a row where the freshmen defensive backs play great and the regulars that are were great last year have breakdowns. I am sold on Jalen Mills!

Our corners have been playing great.

One thing I see that can be fixed is them getting their heads around quicker.

PP7 got made to look foolish against Ole Miss & Penn State as a true Sophomore on TD completions. TM7 got BURNED on a 4th down in Arkansas on a TD completion that ended up being the deciding points in the game.

These things will happen. Heck Tharold Simon got caught on the TD pass this weekend and looked bad when it happened.

The talent Collins, Mills & Martin are displaying should make everyone feel pretty damned confident about the Secondary's play in the short-and long-term. Nevermind your boy Cory Thompson.

Can't wait to see what this unit looks like once Ricky Jefferson, Rashard Robinson & Tre'Davious White hit campus. That's gonna be an absolute shite TON of talent, people.

The point that I can have real confidence in him is when I see how he fares against receivers with elite speed.

He's been impressive so far. There is no doubt he's a physical corner that can tackle. The past couple weeks he has done a great job against two of the bigger targets we'll face this year in Austin Seferian-Jenkins (6-6 266) & Michael LaGrone (6-2 273). His tackling against these big suckers is damn impressive for a frosh. From what I've seen, he is probably a better tackler than Claiborne was & Simon is.

We've seen that he does have some ball skills. And he's eager to learn and seems to have a great approach to the game. I think it was Reid talking about him always having a notepad to take notes on things, and constantly asking questions.

What we haven't seen yet is a team go after him consistently down the field with deep vertical threats. I want to see how he handles that, and how he matches up with elite speed/quickness guys.

He's bored. Don't worry, he won't be sloppy for the big boys.

Are you kidding me? Collins caused two interceptions this week and has played like a stud in every game. I like them both, but every time I see Collins play I can't believe he's not starting.

TM7 and Reid were freshmen in 2010.

Go back and watch the tape. The D was playing zone, and Simon let the receiver pass because he was expecting help over the top.
It looked like Martin was supposed to be covering his side.

I've watched it. Look at Simon's reaction. It was actually a great playcall and they fooled Tharold on that one. His body language tells you that it was on him.

Jalen Mills is a stud. Dude is locking down guys (granted it is lesser competition) all night long. Made very few mistakes so far and has forced a couple of turnovers. Looks really sharp and I honestly believe he is going to have a MUCH better season as a COVER corner than Mathieu would have had. May not force the turnovers or whatever, but as a COVER corner, he looks better already.

Also, he signed a football for me and my wife after the game on Saturday night, so he is a good guy.

Yep, pretty sure it was Martin that had coverage over the top on that play.
