Found this site useful. Great info.

Whew...I'm doing much better than my peers, as a whole.
But seriously, as a Generation Yer, I was always teased about this when at my previous place of employment, but in actuality I am the farthest thing from a Gen Yer other than my age. I'm a throwback.

I'm not doing as well as the rest of my age group.

I'm tempted to go back to school and get that degree. CFA + PETE would have to be an all star combo.

Interesting stats. I found it very interesting that more Gen Yers have their MBA than have no upper degree at all.
That makes me think I'll have to get my MBA to keep competing. frick.

Got it. Has worked out for me, but not sure it is the best bang for the buck. I wouldn't be inclined to do it just to keep up. Separation from the crowd may be best.
Although, I did it just to do it and am very happy where I am at 29 years old...so maybe I just suck at giving advice.

Depending on what you do, you might get better value from a shorter, cheaper MS/MA program, especially since there is a glut of 20-30 something's with MBAs.

This would make me feel like a badass beating all my peers if the extra pay didn't require me to get the extra debt.
Man what I wouldn't give to have left LSU as a petroleum engineer making that salary with only 15,000 in debt. I could have paid that off in a year.

I'd be willing to bet that's because they didn't have any other options when they graduated in the last few years. My dad tried really hard to get me to go to grad school because jobs were not exactly easy to find in the communications field in 2009. The one I thought I had lined up fell through when the company laid off 60% of their PR staff that year.

Ya, a lot of kids decided to "sit it out" when the job market looked bad. I don't know if that strategy is gonna work when every body else did it, but maybe it will.

My 25 year old son is a Chem E. Odd, a company that recruits for the oil industry called my house looking for him.
I am wondering about you Gen Y'ers and your attitude about spending? I know my son and his wider groups of friends are pretty money conscious.

I'm a frugal SOB and had to be when I was a state employee early in my career and my wife a new teacher.
I've moved on to the private sector making more than twice what I was making just a few years ago. My wife and I both have masters degrees...with no student loan debt. Our only debt is a $120M mortgage and just took on a car note of about $18M...and it was like pulling teeth to do that since we both had vehicles we owned outright.
Despite being in a much different place financially, our spending remains the same. Its tough to convince her it is the right thing to do...until she hears of her friends stressing because they are living paycheck to paycheck.

HOLY shite 120 MILLION MORTAGE AND 18 MILLION CAR NOTE? Is it a Bugatti?
On a serious note, I try to be frugal. I have $300 a month budgeted for restaurants/fast food/boozing. I think that is low for a 27 year old. I don't buy jack in material items. I think I buy 3 clothing items a year. No PS3 or Xbox, etc. Buy computer games on sale after they are 2 years old. Its kind of miserable.
I do all this even though my salary is apparently higher than 75% of the national population with no kids, no house note, no car note.
I also am paranoid that I can be fired at any time, which makes me even more frugal. Hopefully one day I can allay my fears.
