For USC to be considered a re-peat o-fender, the McKnight car thing would have had to happen AFTER the penalties were dished out to USC. Haters gonna hate that.

That's incorrect, actually.
It just has to happen after the Bush thing.
Could constitute the dreaded "loss of control"
I hope this is all BS, but I would be terrified, were I an SC fan

Not all that much. The NCAA investigated the relationship b/t Joe and the UW guy when they were looking at the Land Rover thing. But you never know

Are you saying that what the paper reported is old news to the NCAA? The NCAA knew of these alleged payments and said ok whatevs?

No, but they investigated the relationship and gifts at that time and cleared USC.
So the NCAA looks silly now if these new allegations are true.

The NCAA did nothing of the sort. The University performed their own investigation and reported their findings to the NCAA, where, based on what was submitted by the University, they found no issues. The NCAA did not perform their own investigation.
Remember Cam Newton? When he was ruled eligible for the SEC Championship, it was based solely on Auburn's presentation to the NCAA Review committee. It was not until much later that the NCAA began to question what was presented in the University's review that the NCAA Investigators became involved. In this case, there is sufficient evidence now that the NCAA will more than likely become involved.
With respect to the repeat offender rule, it is in play. The University presented information to the committee after they were sanctioned for Reggie Bush. This falls exactly in the LOIC realm because of the apparent lack of ability to control those in and around the Athletic Program.
It's going to be interesting - Remember, Emmert already is pissed at the way USC told the NCAA to kiss their arse. I know it is a new regime, but Emmert does not forget easily. I also remember his comments with respect to catching the real cheaters and leaving the nickel and dime stuff to self reporting sanctions.
This could end up very badly for the Trojans.....

so you are implying that if this is all true, the NCAA will turn a blind eye rather than "look silly" bc they themselves didn't uncover all this information?

what exactly are you talking about? Emmert took over after the USC sanctions were announced

Such a BS comment. It should read So USC is going to look like it lied to the NCAA if these new allegations are found to be true.
Again, the NCAA relies on the University to report on these type instances. Then, based on what is reported to the NCAA by the UNIVERSITY, a ruling is made by an eligibility committee. The ruling is 100% based on the University information and by rule the NCAA does not perform an independent investigation. If, what is presented to the Committee opens other questions, then there is a preliminary inquiry launched by the NCAA.

The bullshite appeals procedures USC pulled in order to delay the sanctions.

WTF??? Why wouldn't we appeal? It's fine that you hate USC but some of what you're saying is just stupid

Why do you assume I hate USC? What is stupid is for someone to just make that assumption based solely on a discussion of a program that under a corrupt coach was out of control. One of the great traditions of College Football is the Great White Horse leading the team out to battle. Unfortunately, the actions of a few that feel they are above the law have forever tarnished that image.
What also is stupid is for the USC folks to keep spewing that the NCAA investigated and found nothing wrong. That is simply not the case and not how the NCAA operates.
With respect to the appeal how can anyone feel USC Athletics were not out of control based on the information revealed thru investigations? This most recent revelation is just more of the same -
Posted on 9/3/12 at 5:47 pm to TemplarTheSaint
you still haven't answered why it was bullshite to appeal? is that something we should not be entitled to?
Posted on 9/3/12 at 5:48 pm to TemplarTheSaint
What Tollner and Robinson did at SC was worse than Carroll. It was more widespread back then, but anyway SC has paid heavily both times they've gotten caught.

If this were true, SC would not have received any sanctions or probation for the Bush saga.

If I understand the last few posts correctly.....USC may have mispresented the whole truth when self reporting and now the NCAA is aware that may be the case and thus another peek into the program?

I don't see that. Big SC had found something else, they had a very easy out. They knew Joe was going pro. It would have been very easy to make him permanently ineligible.

What about the fact a player was receiving benefits while on probation?
No, there was no reason to sweep this under the rug -
And Crow yes, you are basically correct in your assessment. Remember when Newton was declared ineligible for 1 day while the AU Publicity machine prepared the story? His reinstatement was based solely on that presentation. The reason the NCAA does not perform their own investigation is to allow for a speedy ruling to determine eligibility.
Now, additional information has come to light that contradicts what was presented. Sort of like, 1st time shame on you, 2nd time shame on me....

who allegedly on the FB team received benefits while on probation? WHo?
Your post is full of fail

Again, SC disagrees (see 2010). Had the NCAA relied on their (USC's) report, they would not have been put on probation and handed sanctions.
Oh, in case you missed the question, here is is again.
