I'm not worried about it, but it says something about why McKnight wasn't allowed to play in the bowl game that season.

That bowl is defunct. LSU last played in it in 1979 after a very good season with some close games against top ranked opponents.

I'm embarrassed to say that it took the above gem from you to figure out the passive-aggressive reference behind your original userid.

David Sills, FightOn, Tang - and whatever you become when you emerge from your next bannage - you remain a shitty, shitty poster (outside of the OT, of course).

I am not sure to what you are referring with the above names. But as far as a shitty poster- my threads deliver. Oh, and nice double post.

I did not watch LSU much last night.
Honestly and despite the stats, the O was fairly rusty. Too many dropped balls and Barkley was off. Third down conversions were shitty. The D line looked very very good and had six sacks, plus more hurries. But then again it was Hawaii.

Lee is da bomb though. ANd to think we have him for next year too.

If this gets confirmed, USC could be done in football for several years.

That we know, as of yet.

Could be a go-between with an agent, or an SC booster.

Somebody felt they had something to gain by giving him money/gifts.

Reggie Bush's sugar daddy wasn't an SC booster. . .

Good point. The NCAA's take was that a USC coach "should have known" that Bush was receiving illegal benefits from an agent. Also, the NCAA made up this phrase to go along with the Bush investigation: "high profile athletes require high profile compliance"; never stipulating what the definition of high profile compliance was.

In the aftermath, USC fires AD Mike Garrett, hires Haden in his stead, and beefs the compliance department up to an unprecedented level. This is post McKnight, who never played football again after USC self-reported him for the car he was driving.

In that light, and in light of the culture change at USC, I just don't see us getting worked by the NCAA again. We got screwed the first time because Garrett basically dissed the NCAA. Badly. Obviously Haden's changed all that.

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China. The dude got paid and paid good, which is illegal. Whether he was a booster of UWash or a regular on Beverly Hills 90210 is immaterial.

Thought i should add an ucla view.

This is the stuff "repeat offenders" are made of. Scott Schenter, of "United States China" marketing fame, is caught up in a corruption scandal, and his work emails reveal his involvement with Joe McSUV, and Davon Didn't Get Drafted Jefferson:

A key figure in the ongoing corruption scandal at the Los Angeles County assessor's office said he gave cash and perks worth thousands of dollars to two USC athletes while they were still in school, actions that could violate college sports rules.

The allegations are contained among hundreds of Scott Schenter's county work emails that suggest the former appraiser provided football star Joe McKnight with a car and an airline ticket, and basketball player Davon Jefferson with about $3,700 in cash.

The investigation also suggests that Schenter is just a patsy, and that the "Trogan Mafia" is still finding ways to funnel money and other benefits to their mercenary semi-pro team:

It's unclear why Schenter would help the two athletes, or where the $80,000 per year property appraiser would have obtained the money. But in the emails, Schenter says he was trying to start several private business ventures and hoped Jefferson and McKnight would help him market them. His connection, if any, to USC is also unclear. He describes himself in the emails as a fan of the University of Washington, a Pac 12 rival to USC.

What remains to be seen is if the NCAA will have the balls to actually investigate this, and not simply trust in the Trogans' so-called self investigation. They've burned through immense political capital in smacking down Penn State and the Trogans the first time, even if those penalties were justified, and in the Trogans' case, light.

Trojan Mafia?

Sounds like UCLA fans are appropriating the nickname given to Hollywood USC directors and making stuff up.

quote:

2009 - The Santa Monica businessman who owns a sport utility vehicle that USC tailback Joe McKnight has been observed driving says he is a University of Washington fan who has "nothing to do with agents, marketing players or representing athletes."

USC is investigating McKnight's use of the vehicle, which may constitute a violation of NCAA rules that prohibit student-athletes from accepting benefits from marketing representatives or agents, or "extra benefits" from anyone based on their athletic ability.

quote:

2010: The NCAA investigated McKnight’s relationship with Schenter in 2009 – when McKnight was seen driving Schenter’s $27,000 Land Rover – and found no wrongdoing. The emails reveal another car, a Chevy Monte Carlo, registered to Schenter in McKnight’s possession and a receipt for a $625 flight from LA to McKnight’s home town of New Orleans with “Joe McKnight” listed as the passenger.”

quote:

2012:

It's unclear why Schenter would help the two athletes, or where the $80,000-per-year property appraiser would have obtained the money. But in the emails, Schenter says he was trying to start several private business ventures and hoped Jefferson and McKnight would help him market them. His connection, if any, to USC is also unclear. He describes himself in the emails as a fan of the University of Washington, a Pac 12 rival to USC.

Schenter also founded a company called USC Marketing in 2008, which he says stands for United States China Marketing and is not connected to the university.

For USC to be considered a re-peat o-fender, the McKnight car thing would have had to happen AFTER the penalties were dished out to USC. Haters gonna hate that.
