After watching Hicks workouts during the week of the East-West Shrine Game & his play during the preseason, I believe that by midseason he will be starting next to Broderick Bunkley & which will move Sedrick Ellis as the first DT rotating in.

Not only that, in 2-3 seasons, Hicks will not only be a dominant DT who can stop the run & collapse the pocket from the inside but he will also be able to line up outside at times to rush the passer as well. I can see him being a disruptive force like Albert Haynesworth in his prime without the attitude or baggage though.

Haynesworth & Hicks have similar builds. Haynesworth was 6'6 340-350 while Hicks is just a bit smaller at 6'5 315-320. Both possess long wingspans which when used correctly prevents offensive lineman from getting into their bodies. They also both have the same type of skillset, quick first step, strong hands & down right brute strength.

Hicks will end up being another diamond in the rough, mid to late round draft pick for the Saints especially with coaching of Spags & the scheme he runs. Hicks is still rather raw & playing arguably the hardest position to transition to going from college to the pros but he shown to be a fast learner. Barring injury though, there seems to be nothing in his way that will prevent him from learning & getting better.

Every prediction I've heard about Hicks has been "bold."

Maybe it's not bold anymore, maybe it's probable.

Not to nitpick, but the 3rd round is hardly mid to late round.

I hope you're right about Hicks. I like what I've seen so far.

Just to be clear, I was on the Hicks bandwagon after watching the East-West Shrine practices.

I didn't expect any team to reach for Hicks in the 3rd round but I'm glad the scouts & coaches trusted what they saw in him. I didn't expect Hicks to show the flashes he has shown so early either.

True, bad choice of words on my part. I should have said as a player who wasn't viewed as a can't miss prospect. There wasn't a "we got a steal" factor with Hicks as there was with Jimmy Graham who were both 3rd round selections. Truth to be told, there were many grumblings among the fan base with the selection of Hicks.

The grumblings came from LSU fans upset that they took a player who got LSU placed on self-imposed probation.

Which is plain retarded. When crap like that happens it is not the fault of the 18-19 year old. Not saying he shouldn't know better, but I would put the blame on the grown man involved.

It's about time they find one of these on defense.

I was actually on Akiem Hicks bandwagon first.

My thread was on 2/12/12. Your mock was on 4/27/12, over two months later. It's all good, we both saw the possible potential in this guy.

I wouldn't call one thread where one poster didn't like the Hicks pick a "ton of outcry"

And no one in that thread complained about Hicks bc of his LSU connection.
