Be careful if you have game cams in Ms. You may now need a permit.

CAMERA SURVEY PERMIT APPLICATION

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE COMPLETING THE PERMIT REQUEST.

As stated in Public Notice Number W-3796a, a permit is available for wildlife camera surveys at no cost. Any feed or feeding method may be used during the permit period. The permit is valid only outside the deer and turkey hunting seasons for a specific property and for no longer than 21 consecutive days. All feed must be completely removed 10 days prior to hunting. These permits will be issued for legitimate camera surveys only. A permit is not required for persons wanting to take photos over feeders, salt/mineral licks, food plots, or trails. Permits are only required if camera stations will have bait poured, piled, or placed onto the ground. Click here for a copy of Public Notice W-3796a.

Please fill out Steps 1 – 4 completely. All permit requests will be approved/denied by the MDWFP Deer Committee. If you enter a valid email address you will receive your permit and directions for use via email. If no email is entered, your permit and directions for use will be mailed to you via the US Postal Service. No permits will be given over the telephone. No camera surveys may begin prior to receiving the permit.

Interesting... So...if you get a permit, GJs will know exactly who he needs to check first and most frequently after the hunting season starts. I can't speak for anyone else but me, and I would ignore this law if I wanted to put out some bait and see what comes in to it.

This is just a way to for them to see who is baiting and where to look. It'll be wise to ignore and not point the camera directly at the corn pile.

What is a feeder?
A plywood sheet?
A Garbage can lid?

Seems easy to get around. As long as youdont have a corn pile on the ground.

If you read the actual statute it is kind of confusing, but from what I can tell the permit is not needed if the cam is on a trail or food plot. I have no cams nor do I feed, so I care not. It is getting too much like Big Brother if you ask me. I mainly hunt around the fire and guard the cooler.

I interpret this to mean that if you want to climb a tree, hide on the ground, or stand there like an idiot with your digital camera in your hand, you don't need a permit to take pictures over a baited area or feed station. Yeah, right... like you are going to get a lot of pictures by doing that. Go ahead and get that permit then. Just be prepared to have a regular, unannounced visitor to your stand, and I don't mean your best hunting buddy. Just what we need, more government rules and interference. Just make it easy on yourself if meat is all you're after: The best deer hunting of the season up here is right about now while the green beans are ready to pick.

Permit Shmermit.
I just point the camera near the feeder. I can't help it if I spill a bag and a half trying to load a feeder bucket...

Nah, I ain't worried about any other hunters during green bean season! But I'm not gonna stand by idly while deer eat up my garden every night, lectric fence or no fence! Front porch makes a real good, handy stand.

I do t think that will apply to folks with game cameras. That regulation has been on the books since 2008. The MS supplemental feeding law says something to the amount of "no food can be piled up on the ground" you gotta spread it or put in a feeder in other words you can't just pour out a sack of corn. What I read this to say is if you want to take pictures of wildlife you can get a permit to pour out piles of food, but only outside of deer and turkey season. LINK

Green Jeans has some serious sway. He knows Whop Head Dolly can't resist a pile of corn or cornbread or fatback or Bartles & James.

Yeah, I think this is right. The regulation is not for cameras but for feeding (aka photo surveying).

Well, you could be right? I am not familiar with MS laws at all, but I will ask this: Would you be willing to show GJ your loaded bait station/feeder with a game trail camera in position without having a permit for it? I sure wouldn't, even if I had absolutely no intention of hunting over or around it at any time.

Once again I'd like to thank Mississippi for making the rest of the states look awesome by comparison.

That's some really stupid shite right there.
