Why you just never should eat at a banquet (not tv) dinner.

So my family throws a bday party for my aunt at a restaurant in Eunice. Party goes fine restaurant seems decent. They have some hors d'oeuvres. Party consists of 50-60 people I would guess that they were told about in advance.

There was an option to buy dinner since this was at night at 26pp including tip and tax.

It takes 15 min to get salads to everyone ok thats normal I guess but.

No drink order taken..

25 min later they start delivering chicken pasta dishes...

No drink order taken.

(BTW the chicken pasta dishes are served on med size saucers with a small amount of pasta.)

10 min go by they start handing out the steaks all supposedly cooked med-rare to med.

My steak is so overcooked that the meat is shredding like beef jerky. Oh and:

No drink order taken.

By this time my wife is finished eating her bite size portion of pasta. Asks server about drinks and is told that they will take orders after they get the entrees out. I ask if I can get another steak because mine is way overcooked.. She nods then runs off.

10 min go by everyone is eating my steak is sitting forming something between beef jerky and a petrified crust. I look over and my dad's steak was done the same and he couldnt eat his and was given the same dog and pony dance about getting it replaced. I ask another server about my steak. She say ok then runs off.

Then AFTER nearly everyone is finished eating. The servers show up asking each person what they want to drink.. Softdrinks or Tea. Holy crap its dessert Coca Cola!

Still no steak. Ask the server and she ignores me and walks away without responding. Guess she figures since her tip is included why bother. Next thing I know they come in telling everyone how to close out your bill and they start picking up dishes. THEN asks each person if they want a refill of their dessert CocaCola.

$26pp for a place in Eunice La and go talk to the owner and just given a half assed Im sorry we were just overwhelmed. Nothing taken off the bill despite both my dad an I unable to even eat our steaks. Gave the guy $2000 in business not including how much that group probably ordered from the bar and he cant even take out off for a couple on non-edible steaks. I guess the only reason this place stays open is that its probably one of the only restaurants in town.

To make matters worse they had a wedding reception going on in another room at the place and found out that the AC went out in their area. Holy Crap that must have sucked.

Place was called Nicks on 2nd or something like that.

Yeah, you just went to shitty restaurant. I do always expect a little less in the way of service, but normal restaurants pull it off all of the time without problems in quality or service.

With the right kitchen equipment, that number of steaks can be cranked out in fifteen minutes to order.

I've been to enough dinners on the rubber chicken circuit to not expect anything, therefore I'm never surprised or bothered. If your aunt had a good birthday chalk it up as a way to remember it by.

Pretty much what we are doing. Will never go back there.

I just really didnt understand the waitresses ignoring us and not offering an explanation or even tell us that no replacement steak would be coming. Nor the idea of taking a drink order after everyone was served their complete meal.

Yeah, that just seems stupid. Ordering and serving drinks is about as easy as it gets.

That sounds like a really bad restaurant.

I have had good experiences for the most part at these style dinners.

I do think you cant expect that great of individual service at these type things. I will typically buy a drink at the bar and then order a bottle of wine at the table.

Not having a drink in front of you before the food starts arriving is crap.

I would be quite upset as a manager/owner of the establishment for possibly leaving a considerable amount of alcohol sales on the table.

Lack of good preparation is at fault for these situations usually and that falls on management. If the server has a bad attitude, that is one thing, but a property prepared for banquet room can make things flow much easier.

Well done steak is just . Overcooked meat at low end banquet halls is probably more the norm than not unfortunately.

I went to a wedding reception at CCLA a few years ago during the summer...The AC couldn't keep up and it was ridiculously hot..I felt terrible for the people having to pay for that crap.

When we left I saw guys at the wedding had taken their shirts off. As this was in Eunice Im not sure if that was due to the AC being out or not.

I would have gladly eaten a well done steak had it been cooked well done and not past even well done. At least they could have told me that I wasnt going to get another dish or replacement of anything just incase I wanted to eat that shoe leather. Instead they ignored the problem.

Every time I have to go to one of those type dinners which are usually business meals, I debate over rubber chicken or jerky steak since those are usually the options. I don't eat much of either. I've recently decided that the vegetarian option is probably the way to go. Since those are few, they are usually cooked properly and served hot.

Just looked at their menu online..

Cajun Chicken Pasta
Tender chicken sautéed and served in a tasso cream sauce over fettuccini $12.95

Ribeye Steak Dinner 10 oz. 12 oz. 16 oz. *
Nick's on 2nd is famous for our aged USDA Certified Angus ribeye steak cooked to perfection and served just the way you like it.

Doesnt show price for 10oz steak but the 10oz tenderloin is 18.95.

What a fricking ripoff if they charge 26pp for the shitty version of what they sell for much less in the restaurant.

$2 tax
$2 drink
$4 grat
$3 salad
$13 entree

It's not that far off of from what a lot of places charge. It's definitely not a good deal though.

The restaurant definitely makes a killing off it though. I really don't enjoy going to functions like these due to the service/food aspect that is quite often involved, but such is life and not much way around it.

The entree on the menu comes with a dinner salad. Tip of parties of 6 or more they list at 15% on their menu.

Drinks are say 2 but also are not served typically as dessert.

I get 13 entree + 2 drink + 2 tax + 3 (20% grat) so they are $6 over their menu price to have a larger (really doubt they would serve such a small pasta portion otherside of house) and hopefully better cooked meal.

I wouldn't have paid for the bad food. If this was my money, I'd have been in someone's face about the drinks early on. Not much you can do if you're a guest, though.

I've organized a lot of parties and sit down meals. I'm not very tolerant about waiting for things to be corrected.

A good broiler can hold 35-40 steaks, but it will take close to 20 mins even with the best broilers for a Well done Filet or big steak.
