It's probably hard to be a good father when you are working like 18 hour days. I think a few coaches have this problem.

man, some of you people are fricking cocksuckers. Yea its karma that somebody's loved one had to die, because he made a bad decision and hit somebody while he was high. Some of you people need to get off your high horse, and stop being a message board hero.

That's just stupid

I feel for the parents, saw what I put mine through with my drinking over the years. The son knew what his fate would most likely be as did his parents, and I imagine they did all they could to stop it. You can't stop an addict.

I have neither the time or concern for a junkie who disregards their own life, or much worse the lives of others. After ALL the things that kid did, he STILL used drugs. I lay a lot of blame on the Reid family as well. You knew your son was a druggie. Hell after he nearly killed someone, he showed up in jail with a bunch of pills hidden in his rectum. WTF?!?!?!

You didn't force him to be tested weekly? You didn't hold that piss cup for him? No you let him play assistant strength coach. Now you promise to be back for Thursday's preseason game? Andy Reid SERIOUSLY needs to re-prioritize his life.

Yes, I mad.

"I liked being the rich kid in that area and having my own high-status life," Reid told a probation officer, according to court testimony in November 2007. "I could go anywhere in the `hood. They all knew who I was. I enjoyed it. I liked being a drug dealer."

sorry for not being sorry

Seeing as he was 29 years old, how do you propose they should've forced him to do those things? My guess is he was there because Andy Reid thought if he kept him close that he could keep him from using. And why are we assuming they didn't try to get him help?

An addict has to make the choice to work at getting clean by themselves. No one can force them to do it.

Seeing as how he stayed around his dad, and how he said he wanted to stay clean, it's not too hard to implement. He obviously was convincing enough to have his dad let him stay around the camp.

Because he's in the morgue? Because this is a pattern in that family?

And you still didn't answer my question. How was he supposed to "force" him to get clean? The answer is you can't. You can try to give them the tools to but that doesn't mean they will.

Plenty of addicts have died despite getting help or being offered help.

This young man talked about it publicly, a lot. He said exactly what was on his mind. The quotes are in this thread. Tragic loss of a young life, but if he's not ARs kid no one cares. Reality hurts

Depends on how socially awkward and lacking in human emotion a person is. In your case, I would say immediately.

so u believe that they did not try and get him help? that he was just put out on his on or encouraged to do drugs by andy and the rest of his family(excluding his brother)? Thats just dumb

I have plenty of friends that have been addicted to multiple prescription drugs, heroin, cocaine, etc. They were all offered help multiple times. Some of them beat it, some of them havent and are in jail or are still junkies... but the reason they havent beat it is not for the lack of help. In the end, its the junkies decision to get clean no matter how many times he has been put in jail, rehab, lockdown, etc. I am betting that help was offered

Did y'all watch that ESPN documentary on Chris Herren?

An addiction to opiates -- e.g. prescription pain pills, heroin -- is an exceedingly difficult thing to overcome.

I've been making Jerry Sandusky jokes since the news first came out.
