I was looking at the Leupolds but I recently had a guy at a sporting goods store try to sway me towards the Nikons, says they are brighter. What says the OB..

BTW, Im looking for a 50mm, 3x9.

he probably has to try to move some of the Nikons because they're only selling Leupolds.

I have a 3 Leupolds on each of my 3 high caliber hunting rifles and one on my .44 mag.

What caliber rifle?

I put a Nikon 4-12x50 Buckmaster on my .270-- works perfectly but I only trust Leupolds on higher caliber rifles.

I am a die-hard Leopold fan. The Nikons are really good too. I think it's just personal preference. You should also look at the Shepard, and of course Zeiss, and Swarovski. I recently sighted in a rifle with a Swarovski, first time I've ever used one. The quality is crazy. WAY above i=even the Leopold.

I haven't checked but I have a feeling they are too $$$$$ for my pocketbook.

Please don't. They are great scopes don't get me wrong, but for the money Zeiss and Meopta are better. My Meopta is brighter than my stepdads Swarovski. For the money of a Swarovski I would buy a Schmidt and Bender or maybe a Nightforce.

Check out samplelist for demo'ed/lightly used scopes. More bang for your buck there...

Nikons are good scopes, but Leupolds are better. No question.

This weekend you can get a Zeiss Conquest from BPS for $350. Unbeatable deal IMO.

Its a 3-9X40, but I'd be willing to wager that it still lets more light in than any 50mm scope in that price range.

Nikons are good scopes. Leopulds are better.
Nikons are cheaper. Leopulds are more $.

I paid $850 for my Swaro 4x12-50 Z3 and have no regrets.

I recently bought a Leupold, my first high quality scope after 3 decades of hunting. It is so much brighter/clearer than my old one (the cheapest Bushnell from the 80s) that I want to put one on every gun I own. I never missed a deer because of my old scope, but I did not know what I was missing.

As far as the 50mm scope, unless you use it on 9 power in low light, you only need a 40mm to get the 5mm exit pupil/brightness on 3-8 power settings. Those 50mms get bulky and have to be mounted really high. TIFWIW
