Homebrewing - Bored at Work, Weekend Recap Thread

On Saturday I brewed an all Northern Brewer IPA for our club's Hop Project IPA. Ended right where I wanted to efficiency wise (1063) with 6 gallons so probably about 75% efficiency. Hopped to 60 IBU's with an ounce at 20, 10, 0. Will dry hop with 2 ounces for a week once fermentation is complete. No reason to think this beer will not be good as long as I did the calculations right for the bittering hop additions.
This evening ( I know its not the weekend but still) I am kegging a Saison (to be used for Mary Bird Perkins Beer and Bite Event) and a German Alt, that I didn't brew but need to get it out of my fermentor.
Also I bottled a Riesling on Friday night. Pretty good, probably could use a little more aging but I needed some for gifts.

All I did over the weekend was drink a few while you guys brewed your Hop Project IPAs... and then yesterday I racked a mead into the bottling bucket.
I can't really call it secondary since it's the 4th racking, but I wanted to keep getting it off the dead yeast and it's been fermenting for 7 months.

I'll bottle it sometime in the next few weeks (before I need my fermentation fridge again!) and it should be ready around Christmas.

Sounds good. Probably right around the time that Fig Wine I have is going to be ready.
Did you get those kegs from your dad?
How did the games go this weekend. We had a terrible run.

I need to brew one more time before football season starts. I want to create my own recipe, but i still have much to read in Designing Great Beers. I also want a few all-grain batches under my belt before i start formulating recipes.
Styles i want to brew:
Imperial IPA
Oatmeal Stout
Pumpkin Ale
Honey Pale Ale
Rye IPA
Just trying to decide which one to do next. I think i'll save the pumpkin for late August/September.
And the Stout for October.
And maybe save the Double IPA for my first formulated recipe.
So either rye or honey ipa.

The pumpkin ones are always tricky for me. i feel they need a long time to develop but it is difficult to get pumpkins before October. It would be nice to brew that beer soon and let it sit around until October.

Yeah dude, plus I still have a handful of bottles of the 2010 version to compare.

Yes, I have one for you, you can pick it up whenever but it'll definitely be there for you Thursday. I only had one Abita available so you're going to have to settle for AB. Just put your logo sticker over the lettering!

Won 16-4... I looked but didn't see you out there.

I'm looking to get two batches in before then... I have two thirsty kegs that need filling.
The gf wants to brew a Coffee Porter so that's up next, then I think I'm going to brew another Rosemary IPA.

Well we won our playoff game by default, so finished early. Our captain complained that the other team was playing with a player not on their roster, so the game was called. Even though we were winning and I had sat out there for an extra 2 hours waiting to play the game. I was frustrated because we are out there to have fun, and it seemed like a bitch move.

We brewed an APA that we've brewed before but changed the recipe this time to 6lbs Extra light DME and 1 lb of corn sugar. Hopped it with 1 oz nugget for 60, 2 oz of Cascade for 15 and 1 oz of our homegrown fresh/dried Chinook for 5.
Vigorously fermenting right now in Jackson in a 66 degree room but it's fermenting at 72.
Should be interesting to see how this one turns out.

I think my next beer will be one for Oktoberfest. Then onto the beer I want to turn into my house APA, maybe with a hop change though since I need to start emptying my hop stash rather than buying new hops.

That is kind of a bitch move. Our captain complained as well because the other team was playing with only 3 guys and 7 girls and we were told last season that was illegal. The umpires there yesterday said it was cool, and then the team ended up playing most of the game with only 2 guys in the field.
In my opinion it's just for fun, if they want to play with 10 girls in a co-ed league, they can go for it.

I brewed one last year around September. I used canned pumpkin. And just baked it for about 20-30 minutes. Came out great, except i had carbonation issues. (Batches 2-5 all had carb issues). That was extract, this will be all-grain.

Yes, I want to brew a Czech pils(my first lager, and one of the few lagers I actually like) for Oktoberfest. Is that an acceptable style?

We were told that we have to have 4 guys. So the rules apparently vary. I understand why our guy complained because we didn't have enough people since you were suppose to be playing with last years team. We sent a people home early due to the fact they were new players. But it still was frustrating because I wanted to play. We desperately needed suspense's significant other.

Sure why not.

I might not even bring a German style to Oktoberfest... if so it'll be something like a hefeweissen or dunkelweiss. I don't think I'm going to have time to lager anything.

She should be there next week.
How long do I need to lager a czech pils?
