Ironic that after all of the pissing contests building up between avengers and DKR, we'll never know if it would have beaten it....

You know some WB execs were pissed as frick about the bottom line when they heard the Aurora shooting.

It would've beat both of those movies. People were paranoid. Including me. That being said, I believe more people will see it in the coming weeks and beat projections.

It really couldn't both of them were in 3-D and Harry Potter 7 part II was more anticipated than TDKR worldwide.

^A lot of people on the IMDB forums were saying they're going to hold off on seeing it due to the shooting as well in fear of other psycho copycats duplicating the shooting, even though I honestly don't believe it had that big of an impact on the overall box office gross.

But if the Marvel fans can blame TDK's success on Ledger's death, why can't we blame TDKR's somewhat lack of success on the Colorado gunman?

FWIW, the final prelim estimates on Thursday were in the ballpark of 220

And the midnight numbers supported that.

That doesn't mean it's a given that it would best the other two, but it's absurd to suggest there was no way.

Yeah, this thing was tracking Friday morning to hit north of at least $190 million. IMO, it would've beaten The Avengers.

I think it will do better in the coming weeks because a lot of people decided to not go to the movies this weekend.

Ya, definitely don't count out irrational thought's affect on those numbers. My GF said "absolutely not" to going to see it with me. She knows its irrational but it made her uncomfortable. I went any ways, but I have to imagine there was a decent amount of folks that felt uncomfortable about going.

I definitely thought about what happened in Colorado as the movie got started.

Me too. I said prayers for the families affected by that tragedy.

At least we're focused on what's important here.

Harry Potter maybe, but not the Avengers. It's just something no one had ever seen before and we thought could never be executed well. It did, so everyone went to see it.

I see myself as a grounded person and I was even a little alert during the movie, even though I didn't hesitate about wanting to see it or going into the theater. When the part came up in the movie where I think it was the time he opened fire on the theater, I did feel a little scared or paranoid.

I agree. The Avengers was the first time established super heroes came together in the same movie, AND it was actually well done. Then the 3D prices on top of that just ballooned its gross. I didn't think there was any way TDKR was catching it, shooting or not.

The shooting made a huge difference... I know I've already asked about 10 people who said they wanted to see it but didn't want to go to the theatre.

Idiots if you ask me.. but they didn't

I went this weekend and was more concerned about stupid rednecks packing guns for defense. I'm more worried about that now than copycats.

Avengers was something new and different, first time a movie had that many superheros on screen

It was the last Batman in a trilogy but it would have been close

It had some effect, but not as big as you think. It would have reached around $185-190mil.
