This looks like a very possible finish. I don't feel confident in Deondre Clark, but I do believe that we aren't getting Willis.

good list Maximus... i too think Litton will be our most probable shot at QB, though i really want Heard....

i'd add Upchurch at WR, and switch Hootie and Paris at the positions you list them at (Jones to CB and Paris to S)....

anyone know which punters will be out there next cycle? Wing will be gone and we always seem to place a priority on getting scholarship guys at those positions as well... that could be the 25th guy in the class, a punter..... of course, there will be the ubiquitous "what the hell we offering a punter for?" posts, but look at how Wing turned out, and EVERYONE was dogging that offer/signing....

Nice Free Rivals article on the 2014 Texas DB's

LSU is in on all of them.

quote:

"The competition is so good in Texas," Beaumont (Texas) Ozen cornerback Tony Brown said. "You have to be good, or you won't be in (the game)."

quote:

And they are also plenty confident in their abilities. That much is apparent when you ask each guy who's the best Texas defensive back in this class.

"Cedric Collins," Collins said without hesitation. "There are things I can bring to the table. I can run man, zone. I can do it all."

"I'd say myself," Paris said.

"Naturally, I would say myself," Brown said. "I put the most work in."

quote:

"If I had to rank them right now, Brown and Paris would be the two battling for the top spot," Perroni said. "Eddie Paris is a big kid (6-foot-2, 188 pounds). He's built like a safety, but he plays cornerback. He wants to play corner at the next level. Even if he doesn't, he'll be a great cover safety. He's fast. He's big. He moves really well in coverage. He changes direction well.

"Tony Brown isn't quite as big [6-1 and 185], but he tested at 4.39 in a camp, which is ridiculous for his size. He's great in press coverage. A lot of kids want to give some cushion, but he can press and jam you at the line of scrimmage and he's also going to run with you downfield.''

They are big-time players with big-time goals.

I hope we land that group or some variation of it. Get Brown,Paris and Jones, fill in the rest with whatever other studs want in.

Candidates

Hardeman-not sure he sticks either
Harvey
Voorhies-I think he will actually take precedent over those not names Brown, Jones and Paris.
Quincy Wilson from FL
Ricky Gibson from LA
Terrance Alexander LA
Adoree Jackson CA
Arrion Springs TX
Simmons

Honestly too many to name and it's only July of '12. By this time next year there will be 20 more names we could mention. Imo press the main 3 and then fill in around them as the 18 months go by.

absolute takes, and should be the highest priority in next year's class, besides RB....

the next 3 for each position that I would like to get would be:
S- Brandon Simmons, Ricky Gibson, and Ronnie Clark
CB- Quincy Wilson, Nick Watkins, and Cedric Collins

i do, however, think Hardeman sticks, considering we will have put CBs in the 1st round 3 straight years, won multiple awards at the position 3 straight years, play for/win a NC 2 years in a row, and have a need for the position that will be vacated by Mathieu.... lots of recruiting ammo to offer at the position, so it's gonna be hard for other teams to beat LSU out for his services....

Definitely an SEC guy, so "keep away" could add to the value of taking him. Hopefully the Texas guys that don't get taken go to Big 12 or other non-SEC teams.

Yep, No one has seen any more than two years of H.S. ball, one spring and some practices in shorts. Were still talking about a bunch of guys going into their junior years. Anyone who gets mad at any one of them for wanting to look around at this stage is just an idiot. I just hope they are actually having fun and improving their game going from camp to camp.

re: Is this LSU's class of 2014 DBs?

Agree about Voorhies. He's SEC all the way. Only consolation is that if we miss on him, he'll end up at one of the MS schools. Not overly concerned with either of them to be honest. I just think his talent and the fact that he's a coast kid will put him at the top of that "2nd" group of DBs after Jones, Paris and Brown.

I don't think Hardeman decommits necessarily because someone pitched him better. More likely that our depth in the class scares him away or the staff flat out tells him to look around. I like Hardeman and have absolutely no issue taking him but I do believe we have others on the board better than him. Harvey is one of those, as is Voorhies. The great thing about the " big 3" is that all of them have the versatility to play both CB and S. That helps us to take other talented kids that may be better fits at one of those spots. (Example Voorhies-S) I think Harvey could play offense as well so he may not factor in specifically to the DB class. The biggest thing working against Hardeman is the fact that it's so early. I'm not one that believes that "Mathieu position" has to be recruited for specifically. Brooks did pretty damn well in that role as well. Eugene has the same traits. I'm sure one of the many DBs are capable of blitzing off the edge.
