How come the Knicks are the only super big market team that consistently sucks balls?
Melo and Lin both have ridiculous contracts, along with most of the roster.

They're so terrible I totally forgot them.Let me rephrase:How come NYC is the only super large market without a great team?
I guess the new Brooklyn Nets will be the best hope for a winner

Firstly the contract is ridiculous but he may have meant ridiculous in the "that shite cray" manner. In a sentence "Blake Griffin's dunks are ridiculous".

because the Knicks were incompetently managed for a long time.

I think the Knicks might be a better team at the moment.

True,and it is ridiculous.
Not trying to criticize Melo, but Lin's is far from the only bad contract in the NBA

Absolutely.
It just amazes me that a team in NYC can be so bad for so long.

the lakers are really the only team out of them, the clippers, knicks, nets, and bulls that have had the type of success a big market should get you. it's amazing the NBA has ratings like it does without those teams being good

Writes Berman, “The Knicks were bitter because they told Lin immediately the club would match the original offer and Lin apparently shared the information with the Rockets. Lin and Houston then plotted to redo it. Lin secretly flew into Las Vegas without informing the Knicks to renegotiate the contract and sign it.”

Yup, i hope the knicks let him walk and he rots away in h town.

Step 1. Go to Harvard
Step 2. Get Drafted into NBA
Step 3. Play exceptional for 15-25 games
Step 4. Negotiate Contract for more than you're actually worth because you're smart.
Step 5. ????
Step 6. Profit

I don't get all the hate for Lin.
I don't think he's a good player,he should be a first off the bench kinda guy.
But I really don't understand what in particular people dislike about him.
He's far from the only guy in the NBA who stands to make 2 to 3 times what he's worth.

The Rockets seem desperate. It is ridiculous, but Lin will bring excitement to Houston initially.

There's not much hate for him people just don't think he's that good.

Sorry, not hate, just so concerned about his huge contract.
Bad contracts are par for the course in the NBA.

He would be correct. 15 million in year 3

I think when you look at it further it isnt as ridiculous as it initially looks. The Knicks will already be at the salary cap in 3 years with just Melo, Amare, and Chandler. They already used their amnesty on Billups, so they are stuck with those contracts. So Lin's big salary kick in the 3rd year will have absolutely no effect on them being able to sign any other FAs. They are in the biggest market in the NBA and they are one of the few teams that can afford the new salary penalties. Considering all the money Lin will bring in I dont think underpaying him for two years and then grossly overpaying him for one year is all that bad.

Now from the Rocket's perspective I do think it is ridiculous. They are in salary cap heaven right now. After this year the only players they will have under contract will be the guys they just drafted. Lin's deal could cost them big in a couple years. If they still want to do the Howard deal and he ends up walking (which is 99% going to happen when he sees the shite roster he would be surrounded by) they will be COMPLETELY fricked.

I live in the Houston market and you are right. Lin will generate initial excitement, but will fade. He just isn't an 82 game player...maybe a spark off the bench, hot for a few games, but not a solution and not a good acquisition for anywhere near that money.

That's assuming Linsanity isn't a fad. This is NYC we're talking about, the chances of the novelty wearing off quickly is high.

Gonna guess that his agent negotiated that contract.
