The rockets are smart to get Lin IMO, he will make them alot of money in the chinese market even if he comes of the bench.

The rockets were willing to pay Yao 15mm to sit on the bench in a suit to continue marketing him in Asia but Yao retired
I find it laughable that linn had to tell Morey inside info that the Knicks would match any offer. Everybody knew that and Morey put the poison pill offer on the table to screw the Knicks and get the player he wants
msg's market cap has gone up 600mm since linsanity started in NYC

The Knicks get talked about like they're an elite franchise, but they don't have all that much hardware to justify it. Probably the most overrated franchise in all of sports.

if JR wasn't black his comments would sound racist

Melo is 100% right on this. Whether he should've said that is another story though. But Lin had a great span of a couple weeks against the worst teams in the league...I'm not sure that warrants him this kind of money. However, in this day in age in the NBA, it's as much about marketability as it is about talent...and the Knicks (and the Rockets) know that Lin is a lightning rod for media attention and is very marketable. So even if his play isn't worth a contract like that, maybe his overall package is.

And the poison pill is what Anthony is talking about when he calls the contract "ridiculous"...

are there even any 'good' contracts in the NBA?

let's see...Lin playing and Melo out and the Knicks WIN ALOT
Melo playin and Lin hurt, the Knicks SUCK and LOSE!
Was Melo still holding the ball out on the wing when he said this?

Against some of the worst teams the league has to offer. And then he came back down to reality.

Ah, so you just hate Carmelo and want to keep reiterating that point and completely ignore the point of the thread. Gotcha.

How is Melo even catching any flack for this? He didn't say anything untrue. I don't know many people (if any) that think Lin is currently worth the $15 million he will be paid in the 3rd year of that contract. Could he be worth that amount in two years? Sure. Is he worth that currently? No.
And when I say "worth", I'm referring to his on the court performance.

of course he's not worth that kind of money on the court. but they'll definitely get a return on their linvestment through ticket sales and all of the other shite that goes along with it.

The point of the thread is Melo opening his mouth about another players deal. Everyone knows its not his business or anyone elses.
Hate Melo? Nope Do I think he cares about the team? Nope
DO I think that Lin should be paid whatever someone wants to offer? Yes
ANd say what you like, the Knicks were playing better as a team when Melo was out. THe chemistry was crap when he came back and started holding the ball again. I never said he couldn't score, but that's the end of his overpaid abilities.
SO, my question to Melo is why aren't they contenders without Lin doing what he did for them?

I can't follow this question for the life of me.

He's calling it ridiculous because of the "poison pill". The purpose of a "poison pill" in a contract is to deter the primary competition from signing the guy they want. A famous example was in the NFL, when Minnesota included a "poison pill" in Steve Hutchinson's contract in order to get him away from Seattle. The specific clause made it all but impossible for Seattle to re-sign him (if they had re-signed him, they would have been up shite's creek, because they would either have to pay his contract in full or cut Walter Jones...).
While Lin's deal is no where near as nefarious, it still has major implications for New York, primarily because of the inclusion of that $15 million third year, which would debilitate the Knicks unless they cut or restructure some of their other top players.
So Anthony is completely justified in calling the contract ridiculous, not because he's "jealous" or anything silly like that, but because it would be ridiculous for the Knicks to agree to a contract that would hurt them in the long run.
There is absolutely no reason that he should be getting flack for this.

How come the Knicks are the only super big market team that consistently sucks balls?
Melo and Lin both have ridiculous contracts, along with most of the roster.
as it relates to income taxes, i believe NYC is the worst city for an ahtlete to reside. I think that as a result, the knicks over compensate on contracts to offset the larger tax burden.
