Buddies and I discussing possession limits of game animals, can you legally get busted for having over the possession limit of a game animal in your freezer? my friend and I's understanding is that yes, you can...other friend says you can't...who's right?

You would have to really screw up to even be searched for this probably

Possesion means at campsite. Bag limit is in the field hunting. Once you're home and have prepared it for freezing it becomes food and is no longer considered game. IMO

technically you can, but they would need sufficent probable cause to search there.

i was a gw in the 90's and never did anything like this. if you cant catch someone in the act, you are a pretty sorry possum cop to go and search their freezer.

Possession limits apply to your freezer as well, however, as someone else said unless the ole GWs REALLY have it in for you they ain't coming in your house. I've had this same argument with others in the past. It does apply to your freezer

I agree, but that's not the point, it's a stupid law

How would this be enforceable once I have packaged and frozen my catch/kill?

I could catch one small grouper that produces 1 quart of fillets, or one huge one that fills 10 gallon bags. Either way I'm legal. How would they know if it's one large fish or 20 small ones?

I know the question is about game and not fish, but the spirit of the law is the same.

no way to know. kina like the people who catch extra red snappers and fry them in the cabin on the way home. when the gw check them, they have no way of identifying the fried fish, and its perfectly legal to possess 2 pounds of fillets per person on board if the boat has cooking facilities.

On a similar note, I have a camp on the bayou. If I clean my fish at the camp and transport them up to the launch, I'm in violation. Another stupid law.

Oh Chit! I just realized I've got two possessions of deer on the den wall. Besides possesion is per person so I guess everytime my wife goes to town I she has to take her ten redfish and sixteen squirrels with her in case I'm raided.
