Florio discusses the new allegations that cerullo recanted his allegations about joe vitt, and brings up a very good point about Joe Vitt's inclusion on these shitty typed up notes that he produced, quite literally, for the league. Worth a watch as this thing continues to get crazier as it unfolds

I'm convinced that Cerullo talking to the media, regardless of what he says, would be devastating to the NFL's PR campaign

I have new found great respect for Florio. He has not allowed the NFL to get away with what they got away with on ESPN and Yahoo.

If the NFL can threaten Payton and Williams with longer suspensions for talking then they can without a doubt threaten Schefter and Cole with reduced access if they dig too deep and don't report what is given to them.

Remember he was one of the harshest media members calling for strict punishment for the Saints when this broke.

He also has known Cerullo's name for a long time and refused to say it because he didn't want to out "whistleblowers"

Here is the answer to that

My email and Florio's response

initially it appeared against NFL's interests to trumpet this, making the NFL's statements credible

coaches basically admitted to the factual allegations and williams didn't appeal

NFL is now refusing to make evidence available as to the players

it all seems fishy now -- initially it didn't

what were you thinking?  that tom benson gave me a free car?

Subject: Florio, why the change of heart

You were one of the media members to accept the NFL's findings at face value.
The league forever "sullied" the reputations of Payton et al partly due to
reporters and journalists like you being completely devoid of skepticism. As a
long time, and recently begrudging, fan of PFT planet, I am very eager to
understand this swing in your opinion of this matter. I am doubtful you will
answer but regardless I am eagerly anticipating your response.

My response to that would be the NFL has always hidden the evidence.

An independent journalist, and this goes for a lot of people not just Florio, should have asked to see the evidence before accepting the NFL's word on the matter.

It shouldn't have taken the players and the NFLPA asking and not getting evidence to make it fishy.

Florio, since he jumped on the punish the Saints bandwagon early, should have wanted to see the evidence before coming to that conclusion.

IMO Florio being one of the loudest media members coming out against the NFL tactics now, is due to his realizing he made a mistake back in March and April

Thanks for the link. They are keeping it quiet now, but this is going to get REALLY big in time.

Wouldn't it be something if the label "scandal" is removed from the Saint's organization and placed on the league office!

Yes, the pay-for-performance happened. Everyone admits this happened. So why is these players (and Vitt) fighting these bounty allegations so aggressively? They DIDN'T happen, that's why!

But Goodell is a dick because he will say the penalties were for the PPP and not the bounty allegations.

This is for you, Roger

That's why I'm saying Goodell will get passed over come HOF time. Florio and basically every journalist who accepted the NFLs findings at face value feels like a pawn/putz. He used them and regardless of what their take on bountygate is now. They probably don't have many warm feelings regarding goodell

Goodell's HOF chances will come down to LA expansion and how the game grows internationally IMO

People give the guy too much credit for the popularity of the game, which is all tagliabue's doing

LA will happen but minus the jags relocating its going to be a fricking pr disaster. Vikings aren't going and moving the chargers would be really bad (alot of tradition there) maybe the rams would be a good fit. LA seems to be better served by the league with teams saying "build us our stadium or we're going to Los Angeles.

The game growing internationally? Fat chance. All he is doing now is pissing off season ticket holders and they've made zero headway into the European market

I've been saying it since 06, the guy is just a sleazy politician

true, but he's basically admitted as much...no doubt he stands to gain from a huge story breaking but I'm sure he's not doing himself any favors in going after his cash cow either though.

This would have ended in a HUGE WIN for the NFL if they wouldve just gone easy on the players. They wouldve still made their point that they are "concerned" about safety but wouldve been able to justify light player suspensions bc players were just following orders from above.

This whole bounty thing would be OVER but Goodell IMO was trying to spite the NFLPA and it backfired.
