From rotoworld: Will Rhymes collapsed on the field during Wednesday's game after he took first base following a hit-by-pitch. It was a scary incident. Rhymes was in a ton of pain after getting hit by a pitch on his arm, but he took his base after being looked at by trainers. Then, just before the next batter stepped in, he fell down in a heap at first base. He eventually sat back up and was taken off in a cart by paramedics. We'll update his status when more is known.

this exact thing happened to a friend in HS. He ended up being fine, it was like a "kink" in blood flow causing temporary lack of blood to flow to his brain... or some shite like that

Damn that's rough. Prayers sent. I've seen that clip where Hank Gathers collapses a few times, it's pretty rough footage.

Damn, Ryhmes hosted me on my visit to William and Mary. He's a great guy, and I hate to see that happen to him. He played HS ball at Lamar in Houston.

I was watching, and had no clue how he passed out. My wife said that sometimes pain could cause that. Severe pain can cause the body to go into shock. I would guess that having the bones in your elbow/forearm shatter from a 95 mph fastball would cause severe pain.

What? He passed out for that?

The adrenaline rush can shorten the oxygen supply to the brain and cause you to lose your balance.

Whatever happened, it was scary. I was watching it live on the tv.

I had something similar happen to me during football practice back in the day. Wrapped up a guy for a tackle, and had a fellow defender come in to assist with the take down. The other defender's helmet hit my funny bone. Right before the next snap, which was a good 30-40 seconds later, I passed out while standing in my position getting ready for the next play. Elbow and arm hurt for a good hour after that.
