And if it has the same boring mechanics as Warcraft I will not play it.
I hope it does something different. I really really want to get back into MMOs

Please be like star wars galaxies. We need player controlled cities and economics, where farming and crafting are legit professions.

Still mad I was still playing UO at the time and didn't try this as well.
But yes, I would love them to give players more freedom. They have the type of franchise clout to do it.
Developers believe (probably rightly) that people will quit when it gets tough, but I think this property has enough fans to keep them plugging along. If Star Wars is having the problems it seems to be having (I haven't seen any numbers) then maybe we will get a game changer soon since doing business as usual is possibly getting more risky, which is good for gamers.

I hope to god this will be like a new version of Asheron's call (1 not 2).. which if it's anything like Skyrim it will be.

With hardware restraints, bandwidth being skewed towards the low side, and the scale and fluidity expected in MMOs, you won't see different mechanics for a long time. There's too much going on per server per game have button timings outside of ability hotkeys dictating the game. Picture playing Call of Duty with 1000 kids running around in the game, and everyone fapping to sluts. It'd be unbearable. Graphics and depth of mechanics will always take a hit because the gaming world as a whole doesn't have enough horsepower per machine to make that game profitable.

Doesn't a rather small developer do this every day with EVE Online?

Seen any of the Planetside 2 Videos ? They plan on supporting thousands in an MMO FPS.
The original Planetside supported hundreds, and that came out 10 years ago.

Not at all. EVE Online is a great game, but in the way of what it needs to run, it isn't exactly a powerhouse because of the style of game it is. EVE Online, for the developer, is more of a number crunch, and with only 400,000-500,000 subscribers, it really isn't that hard to keep people happy and the game working well. World of Warcraft's support was much better when the game was newer and they didn't have 11,000,000 people bitching about not getting a mount when they didn't even finish the dailies they needed to to get it, much less fix real problems.
What I meant, though, was a graphically rich, traditional MMO styled game without, outside of instancing, load screens. This is what I hear that most gamers are searching for now because MMOs seem too cartoony, and they're all the same as WoW. As power is increasing in low model computers, we're seeing games getting a bit more ambitious and detailed to appeal to a broad audience. That said, the cost and resources needed to run an MMO are astronomical, and unlike most games, crunch never ends. Content must always be tweaked, hotfixed, or created to stay successful. For a rich, complex engine, that would be an incredibly difficult and risky task to take on.
They use the persistent world term extremely loosely in my opinion. For example, PlanetSide used the islands as a way to cut down on taxing both the user and themselves. It's a lot easier to keep tabs on a server in sectors than all at the same time. So the main control points were all separate bins within the main server's bin allowing it to run well. On a game like World of Warcraft, with a much larger area on one continent than all of PlanetSide, you won't notice the game loading (unless your shite sucks and you see popping) all over with more zones than you can shake a stick at. Also, FPS games are more likely to support more players at higher levels because bullet pathing, in older MMOFPS games, have absolutely no variance whatsoever for the most part. This means that once the aim is calculated, the only thing being processed is whether it's a hit or miss. Nothing else. In a smaller scale FPS, they can allow for more variance because they're not worried about a high number of them.
PlanetSide 2 is incredibly impressive looking to me, but again, I will wait to pass judgement until I play it for an extended period of time. Looks great, but I'm interested to see how SOE handles it in terms of stability and support. If these games were possible to make, they'd be everywhere, I'd imagine. The Call of Duty MMO on consoles would be the highest selling game of all time because people everywhere have always said "I wish I could play on a side where every battle is a part of a bigger battle and there are more people." I just think there's a hurdle that's going to require a lot of failure before success. Honestly, because of the art style and lore of Spartans, I believe that a Halo MMOFPS that Microsoft's Xbox "Durango" is going to be the platform to do the first persistent console MMOFPS shooter with extreme success.

Sweet Jesus yes
PvP officially has potential due to this fact alone

This will probably come out in 2015, it's Bethesda, hell 6 months later and we still don't have DLC for Skyrim.

that's not a bad thing. Bethesda takes the time do it right.

It's not Bethesda, it's Zenimax Online. Bethesda may publish, but it is not their team controlling the production.
At least that's what I read.

I have read that they released a teaser trailer today. I can't watch it at work though.
