my first money board post, so hello everyone. im guessing this is the best place for this question.
so after graduation me and the gf will be moving to either Denver or Dallas, she just got back from Dallas and there is a strong chance she landed a solid job there, unfortunately we know pretty much nothing about the living situation in dallas.

so hopefully some of yall can help us out if we end up in dallas.
the job would be in irving Texas.
we are looking for a safe area
not secluded
close to some fun spots
looking to spend around $1,000 a month on rent 1100 at the max.

any suggestions on buildings or areas would be very appreciated

ETA: 1 bedroom, dog friendly, the more sq feet the better

Uptown is about 20-30 minutes away, that is where all the best bars are and is where a lot of young professionals live.

Avoid any apartments on Belt Line Road or south of Highway 183, those are the worst parts of Irving.

Las Colinas area is your best bet followed by Valley Ranch (both are in Irving, and most likely her Irving job is in Las Colinas).

would we be crammed into a 500 sq foot apartment though?

Most of the newer apartments in Uptown are larger than that, but there are pockets of old ones and those areas are very dangerous.

if anyone has any specific locations, apartments to look at that would be great

me and the wife had a 2 bed, 1 1/2 bath apt in valley ranch for around 1k a few years ago.
on average, valley ranch will be a little higher than las colinas. i would stay in north las colinas or valley ranch if possible. basically do an internet search for apartments in irving texas (valley ranch and las colinas are both technically irving) and look for those in between W Belt Line (northern border) and 114 (southern border)

Uptown or Addison has more nightlife. Las colinas is nice, no good nightlife

Irving, Addison, and uptown Dallas are your best places. For 1100 you won't get much in those areas. The further out you go the more you get for your money. Me and my wife lived in a 2 bed 2 bath townhouse in Richardson from 2009-2011 and our rent was $1500. Uptown is experiencing some revitalization, so you are going to be able to find some nice places in some not so good areas.

There is a lady that will find places for you free of charge (Cindy brogal sp?). All she asks is that you refer her on your application.

Dallas is a huge market so everyone is in competition for tenants.

Good luck. And enjoy Dallas. Always something to do.

As one of the posters suggested, there are apartment locator services that will work for free for you. Just ask that you refer them on the application so they can get paid. They'll let you know about "specials" and such

im worried that they wont show us everything available, just the ones they represent, is that something to be worried about or is that not how it works?

they will get you in a good spot. they get paid on commission, not salary.

in general, yes. i dont want to provide a blanket statement like that because every profession has its dregs. think of them as real estate agents - some good, some bad.

I live in Irving on Macarthur Blvd. There are tons and tons of nice apartments around me. Personally, our place is a little over 1500 square feet, 2 bedroom/bath, and has a 2 car garage and we pay around 1350/month.
