...SOMETHING today or tomorrow.

Signed a kid, hired a coach.

If he doesn't have any news to announce in his first week on the job, from a PR standpoint it won't look good.

That's not intended as a criticism of his job performance. It's just an observation. Folks are expecting him to be a lot more dynamic and energetic than Trent, who never had anything of interest to announce, and since Johnny just got the job now's when people are paying attention to what he's up to.

Isn't he supposed to be on the air in 45 minutes or so? That'd be a good opportunity for him to let a cat or two out of the bag.

I dont think it would look bad, but it would be nice to rejuvinate the fan base with an announcement

Not really. It would give fans something to be excited about for maybe a day or two, then if the baseball team wins tomorrow, the fans will forget about basketball. Ultimately he will be judged on his win/loss record PERIOD. Unfortunately we wont know what that will be until starting in Nov. Trent didn't get "nudged" out of Baton Rouge because he wasn't personable, it was because he didn't win enough. Johnny Jones could be the biggest a-hole on the planet (there's no indication that he is) and as long as he won, LSU fans would love him. While you personally may want to hear something, winning is the best PR he can garner for the program.

It took a week to hire Jones
It will at least take a week or longer to put together a staff - he doesn't have to rush to put a staff together

As far as recruiting, you do realize anyone he signs at this point is nothing more than a stopgap player. He's not gonna recruit anyone at this stage that is sec starter caliber. You have to be prudent and not waste a schollie on a kid that will be stuck on your roster for 2 to 4 years when you could save it for next year's class. Basketball recruiting is a lot different than football. LSU is already way behind on the current jr class which is far more important than taking any sr from this years class.

Ideally Trent should have had two or three already signed that you would have to convince to stay but since Trent didn't feel like recruiting that is where LSU is at the moment.

Perfect example of this?

Nick Saban & Bobby Petrino. Both are huge assholes & despicable human beings, but both are adored by their fan base.

I think it's different for basketball, particularly when you're not a basketball first school.

Sounds like Shawn Forrest and Charlie Leonard are coming with him from North Texas, which I assume means Forrest isn't getting the job up there.

Yeah, just said he brought two guys with him but can't say names because LSU hasn't done a formal press release.
