| EPA says no fracking rules until 2015 (Posted on 4/18/12 at 10:46 am)
LINK / Assuming this isn't all a bunch of smoke and mirrors, I'm honestly surprised. I thought this would be the next anti-energy rallying cry for the gov't.

He didn't kill it the previous 3 non-election years, either. Furthermore, who is he pandering to by not banning fracking?

people who like lower energy costs and more domestic jobs... minority of the public I know, but still could be significant come november.

As the lines are drawn today, do you think that they are going to vote for him now?

The election is in Nov. If you banned fracking right now, at this very moment, the price of nat gas and even oil (fracking is still primarily associated with gas) would not move the price up enough to elicit the most minor complaint about pricing by the election date and probably for a while thereafter.

Right, because there are absolutely zero people in the middle who are undecided.

But that doesn't matter when you're pandering. Only perception matters. Why is it assumed that only those opposed to obama's reelection would want an increased domestic output of oil and gas? Isn't reducing dependence on foreign oil the mandate of the Department of Energy?

Are you delusional? ETA: Seriously I thought you knew more about gas markets and current national production that this post shows. I'm frankly shocked.

Well you've certainly got it figured out with all your smug posts. In the meantime, there are people in the middle who actually care about it from a general economic and job creation/maintenance perspective.

But I thought it was a well known perception that Obama was trying to raise energy prices so that we would live in a alternative energy utopia. That was him pandering to his supporters....But now he's going to pander to the pro-fossil fuel crowd and alienate his base with a pro-fracking stance. Earlier this week he was out to crush the industry and was referred to as Hitler for creating oversight of the 10 agencies coming up with frack regs, but now he's reversed course, but it's all pandering. Mixed fricking signals from the WH fo sho!

I've questioned that as well as why environmentalists and the AGW crowd would rather we get our oil from nations that do not have the strict regulatory standards we have, to have it shipped from halfway around the world (which adds to supposed AGW)? The U.S. has the strictest standards to protect the environment so logically, wouldn't you want to see more drilling in the U.S.?
