French Quarter Fest

Headed down to NO for French Quarter Fest next weekend. Gonna do Willie Maes for lunch on Friday but looking for something unique away from the "fair food" during the weekend. Any suggestions? Would love some BBQ.

Not sure what you mean by fair food, but if you think the food out there is hamburgers and hot dogs, you are mistaken. THe food out there is great.

why not just at the the festival?

if you think it is just "fair food" you've never been. Some of the best restaurants in the city are out there.

This. Very good stuff. You can find all of the good food you want without leaving the food tents at Jackson Square.
I always start with the crawfish and goat cheese crepes from Muriels and then just go with what looks good after that.

Haven't been to the new location, but The Joint in Bywater is the titties for BBQ. A little far from FQF though

The selection of great food is as big a draw as the music, etc. Eat there! Go to their website and check out the lists / locations. French Quarter Fest Food 2012

The food at the French Quarter fest easily tops any other local food fest(Including Jazz) and probably has some of the best in the world.

The food is on of the main draws.

You can choose items from dozens of top local restaurants in one weekend.

I go to FQF for 2 reasons.
1. To eat food
2. To eat food while listening music

Don't order any food after 1pm from he vendors. The portions are cut severely and you are still charged the same price.

I'm not too sure about this. If anything portions get bigger later as places want to get rid of what they have cooked.

I always am on the look out for the crepes at Muriels booth, and the Crawfish bread. But there are so many good ones. This is not some "fest food" kind of thing. This is THE food fest of New Orleans.

Most likely closed because they are at French Quarter Fest.

New location is bigger and nicer. It has a bar, inside seating, as well as a patio outside next to the smoker

It's literally only 1-2 blocks away from the old location

The Vaucresson Sausages are delicious, Antoine's Oysters Bonne Femme, Last year I had Jock Imo's softshell crab poboy that was reallly good as well.

The vendors and food this year look amazing.

I'm going for the first time this year because I have a friend from west Texas who happens to be in town Thurs.

1. What other resturaunts/dishes are must have?

2. Will Thurs. be a good day even though it's the first day of the festival?

Thanks guys.

Just walk around and see what people are ordering.. and ask them for a bite of what they're having. It's very common at French Quarter Fest to share.
