Easily one of my favorite musicians of all time. He may have not been the greatest singer or guitarist ever (which he wasn't), but he wrote some really great songs that influenced a generation. For fans of his (and his band), share your favorite Nirvana songs.

Here are some of my favorites:

Verse Chorus Verse

Pennyroyal Tea

Old Age

Blandest (Demo)

You Know You're Right

Note: This thread is not the place to let everyone know how absolutely awful you think Nirvana was/is.

Just my honest opinion. I put Cobain up there as the Vanilla Ice of Grunge/punk. He sucked. He was just popular and killed himself.

There's really nothing honest about that opinion frankly. You sound like you just hate him, whether its because it was overplayed, you are younger and just heard how great he was and thought his stuff was over rated.

A real shame, he could have created so much more great music.

Nevermind is one of the greatest albums of all time.

So what's the deal with all the Nirvana songs being done on the singing shows? Did someone buy out their catalog?

I remember when I first heard he killed himself. On the way back home from class. Thanks for making me feel old!

i didn't spend a lot of time as a nirvana fan when he was alive. I remember hearing that he od's somewhere in europe I believe? and thought "who cares?". Then I started listening to some of their music and I thought " these guys are pretty good".

Then i heard that he was actually dead this time and i was like "well frick !!"

I credit him with the songs that Courtney calls hers. The lyrics sound pretty cobainish.

That said, i have started to believe that Grohl was the brains behind the operation anyway.

If he were still alive, he wouldn't be the 'messiah' of music that the cool kids claim him to be.
Nirvana was good, yes. But, the greatest thing ever? No.

Courtney Love keeps suing people and there's a dispute over who owns the songs: Cobain's estate (Love) or Nirvana (Grohl). She sued the Muppets for, and I quote, "raping Kurt's corpse". You know, the movie that Grohl starred in and played the modified Nirvana song.

I like Grohl, but let's not pretend he was the creative force behind Nirvana. Foo fighters sound totally different and he wasn't the band's original drummer. they certainly got better when he joined, but the sound was already there. He pushed it over the top with his aggressive style, but Cobain was the songwriter.

Favorite Nirvana songs?

Heart Shaped Box
Rape Me
Territorial Pissings
Lithium

And though he didn't write it, their cover of Where did You Sleep? is friggin amazing. And anyone who thinks he was the Vanilla Ice of that era clearly wasn't conscious of pop music at the time. And this is coming from a massive Mudhoney fan.

His suicide catapulted that band and himself into this god like status that neither he nor the band ever deserved. I don't hate Nirvana but this worshiping at the Nirvana altar needs to stop. Kurt Cobain lives and their hype eventually dies out (no pun intended).

I am OLD!

His daughter can probably buy beer now!

I was always a Pearl Jam fan. I appreciated Nirvana. But they were just first. Teen Spirit was first to hit the radio. His suicide and heroin made him better than he was. I make this point often. You cannot dismiss the influence of heroin on great/classic music. But it is the devil and its users do not age well or just do not age.

Everyone says it is hard to go from being a misfit to be being stinking fricking rich and everyone kissing your arse.

Chances are that they were already done making good music. Look at the other bands that survived that era. Smashing Pumpkins, STP, and Pearl Jam. None of those bands have really been that popular since the grunge movement died down.
