Hunger Games - better than I thought and movie question

I know there were some threads on Hunger games a month or two back - searched but didn't appear they were still around.
Wife has been after me to read Hunger games for awhile. With the movie coming up (and knowing that I'll have to go see it with her), I bit the bullet.
Much better than I thought. It won't win any awards, its not overly descriptive, and frankly, I think theres a longer story there. But the pacing is fantastic for the most part - you look forward to picking it back up. The action is described very well - some authors have a problem detailing violence, etc. while keeping the pace of the scene real and frantic. I would recommend anyone thinking abour reading it to just go ahead. And its not like you'll waste a lot of hours - its a very short read.
I did have a couple of questions about the movie....mainly all based upon the fact that the book is all told in first person narrative....
SPOILERS
Will we see Prim, the mom, or Gale, etc. watching the hunger games? I would think brief scenes of this could be very interesting - especially given the moms history of shutting down. I would love to have gotten some perspective of watching these games from the book - not sure if thats in book 2 or 3 (snippets of watching this past games, or the following years games) which I'll be reading within the next few weeks probably.
So much of the action takes place away from Katniss, but that can be bad for movies. For instance, I want to see the Cato vs. Thresh fight. The intial opening into the Arena - lot of deaths there but Katniss really only witnesses one. They've got to show more of the fighting, right?

Search using the google function (or just go to google itself). Lots of results.

To answer your spoiler question, Suzanne Collins posted this yesterday on the official THG Facebook page: LINK

Is the Hunger Games just one book or a series ala Twilight?
Posted on 3/2/12 at 7:46 am to Fusaichi Pegasus
I just reread THG over the weekend to brush up for the movie (got my tickets to the midnight showing yay!). Random little blurb about 4 things from the book that won't be in the movie LINK
To the above poster- it's a 3 book series. The Hunger Games is the first of the trilogy.

You will see Prim, of course, in the beginning.
Spoiler about Catching Fire/Mockingjay............
(not a big deal, but just in case)
In the later books (not sure which one), Gale mentions that he watched alot of the games with Prim and the Mom, so they may show it that way.

Madge - no real loss here, other than having someone else give the pin
Focus on Avoxes - fine
Capitol gadgets: damn, but understandable
Focus on the prep team: This one I think is a mistake, given events in Mockingjay
Haven't been to a movie theater in forever, but I'm looking forward to this one.

Is there an "official THG" thread? Because I would love to discuss final book, Mockingjay. I loved the first two, but the third just had this WTF!? factor to it. That and it was tedious, and at times boring.

I still don't know how these books got so much love. The first one was solid, exponentially better than the other two. The second one was alright. The third was verbal diahrrea translated into print form. Seriously I was laughing during that book and then getting pissed I'd read the two previous books to get to this awful ending to the trilogy.

IMO, the Second one was better. Maybe I just don't read enough to know what great books are, but I like the entire trilogy. I was entertained from start to finish, it had emotion, I found myself tied to certain characters and I was glad that I read it.

I'm thinking the same thing. The books were decent, but far from great like some people say. 1st was good, second was almost a repeat of the first, third was good up until the end where I thought the author lost it and gave up. Also with a pg-13 rating it will be interesting to see how they portray all the death and gore on the big screen.

That sums it up. It became hard for me to get through, because it was so cheesy and just way way over the top.

The third book really was terrible. The action at the end was just horribly written.

I disagree about madge. Not only does she give the mj pin to Katniss but she is also how Kat finds out about the uprising indistrict 8 and I believe also something to do with kat's mom's bff that got waxed in one of the previous HG...I think
I also think the prep team plays a pretty big role in the books esp. 2 and 3..
Like you I havent been to a theatre to see a movie in a long time... (Read:2007 when the first transformers came out (that would make about anyone stop watching movies)
But i got my opening night Imax tix with the wifey

Let me start by saying that im not a huge critic and negative towards things, im easily pleased and entertained when it comes to movies and books but....with that said......
I really enjoyed the first one. I enjoyed the concept and the futuristic look on what happens the the world.
Second one started off good but then i got bored with the second half of it.
The third on honestly just pisses me off. Like others have said the Author just gave the frick up. I mean its actually really really really terrible of an ending.

To be honest, I think the last book would be a great movie. It sucked as a book but watching film could explain a lot of the stupid shite that went on.
The first book, IMO, is going to be hard to adapt to film because there is just so much that needs to be explained.
Second book was alright but I felt that it was much shorter than the others (I read on kindle so I don't know how long the books are)

Pin can come from anyone (looked like Prim in the trailer?). And with the finding out coming from the mayors house, Kat could have been there for any reason that they come up with without needing Madge. I just don't think she ever got flushed out to the point of being all that important.
Agreed on the prep team.
